SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

*Mickey Blues Eyes* (PG-13) -- another Hugh Grant comedy, without Julia Roberts this time.

Julia Roberts (Notting Hill) was missed, but that's my opinion. This was another so-so comedy about a good guy getting caught up in the crime world because of his love for the daughter of a gangster.

*Mickey Blues Eyes* suffered deeply not only in the Wanton Violence/Crime Investigation Area but also in Offense to God. It suffered heavily in Impudence/Hate and Sex/Homosexuality as well. This movie, though not nearly as invasive on the surface as most R-rated movies, was clearly equivalent to R-rated movies of 1995 and 1996.

Wanton Violence/Crime suffered due mainly to gunfire injuries, deaths, and a murder PLUS a thick reliance on criminal activities to say its thing. Sex/Homosexuality lost heavily not necessarily due to the severity of sexual material but due to the volume of it -- no nudity I could note but a great deal of "little" pieces and parts to a sexual picture. However, Offense to God lost all of its starting 100 points early on due, in a large part to saturation of the script with the use of God's name in vain both with and without the four letter expletive. But Offense to God lost points mainly to an extremely offensive painting of Jesus murdering someone with a machine gun (shades of South Park?) and another painting of Him being impaled with arrows while on the Cross. THIS is one of the strongest advantages of using the CAP services -- the advertisements would not (or could not and maybe *should* not on TV) tell you of these things. We can. Without you having to see them to know.

Impudence/Hate lost most of its starting 100 points due to the usual stuff -- the most foul of foul words plus the three/four letter word vocabulary.

So many of our visitors seem to be relying only on this Summary/Commentary for a full accounting of the subject movie. This is not possible. For the best representation of the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model applied to this movie, visit the Findings/Scoring section below.

FINDINGS / SCORING: Mickey Blue Eyes (1999) CAP Thermometers

NOTE: Multiple occurrences of each item described below are likely.

Wanton Violence/Crime (W):
  • criminal organization activities
  • strong arming
  • firearms to control
  • gunfire and gunfire death with blood
  • cover up of death
  • death victim
  • kidnapping to control others
  • threats to kill
  • pretend murder
  • forcing to kill to protect

    Impudence/Hate (I)(1):
  • lies
  • two uses of the most foul of the foul words
  • at least 12 (probably more) uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary

    Sex/Homosexuality (S):
  • sexual reference, comment
  • excessive cleavage
  • sexual enticement motions
  • adult underwear
  • inappropriate touch
  • offer of sexual service
  • homosexual suggestion with talk and a gay background song
  • homosexual kiss

    Drugs/Alcohol (D):
  • booze

    Offense to God (O)(2):
  • painting of Jesus murdering with a machine gun
  • painting of Jesus on the Cross being impaled with arrows
  • four uses of God's name in vain with the four letter expletive and 32 times without

    Murder/Suicide (M)(3):
  • gunfire murder

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication. As required of the Holy Scriptures, unless God's name is used with reverence to His glory and praise, its use is considered in vain.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
