EXECUTIVE SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

"Gloria" -- the perfect example of how the advertisements CANNOT tell you the truth (but *I* can). If the advertisers were to do so, they would have to include 99 uses of unacceptable language, 51 of which were the most foul, some by a child. The advertisers would have to tell you of the threats of children, the long and repeated sequences of cleavage which threatened to loose confinement due to the scantness of the clothes, the 12 uses of God's name with the four letter expletive, and a woman bending over in front of a child wearing nothing more than a crotch-length tee shirt, to which she stripped in front of a child. The advertisers would have to tell you of the graphic and heartless murders of a boy's entire family by gunfire: a grandmother, a mother, a father, a sister. They would have to tell you about the repeated nudity of five adult men in front of a child. And of the coercion of a child to assist in a robbery. This movie was most foul -- most foul. And in about 80% of it, a seven year old boy actor was present to witness the acting. Please read the CAP Thermometers and the listing of dozens and dozens of findings of ignominy.

FINDINGS / SCORING: Gloria (1999) CAP Thermometers

Wanton Violence/Crime (W) lost intermediate level points ten times due to terror of deaths threats before children, multiple threats with guns, kidnapping, manhandling of a child, planning the murder of a child, robbery with coercion of a child to assist, child theft, and death by vehicle with blood splatter. Wanton Violence/Crime lost maximum level points twice due to a series of threats with firearms and the loss of an entire family to murder.

Impudence/Hate (I)(1) lost intermediate level points twice due to the use of the three/four letter word vocabulary by a child and encouraging a child to lie. Impudence/Hate lost maximum level points 51 times due to 51 uses of the most foul of foul words.

Sex/Homosexuality (S) lost intermediate level points ten times due to a child starring at excessive female chest exposure, inappropriate dress with much breast bounce, a child's face in near contact with a woman's bare upper legs, foul language by a child, "That guy was just ------- you" by a child, "You got a little pee-pee. Men have big pee-pees. Hopefully you will someday", presentation of a whorehouse as glamorous, and sexual innuendo to and by a child. Sex/Homosexuality lost maximum level points nine times due to several long sequences of inappropriate dress (too much cleavage), some in front of a child, several scenes of multiple nudity, some in front of a child, a woman removing her clothes to a crotch-length tee shirt then bending over away from a child, and encouraging a seven year old child to have sex (and drink alcohol).

Drugs/Alcohol (D) lost no intermediate nor maximum level points.

Offense to God (O)(2) lost intermediate level points ten times due to the use of Jesus' name in vain. Offense to God lost maximum level points 12 times due to the use of God's name in vain with the four letter expletive.

Murder/Suicide (M)(3) lost no intermediate level points but lost maximum level points four times due to graphic gunfire murder of a grandmother, of a mother, of a father, and an unseen but heard murder of a child while calling for her mother.

Other examples of entertainment ignominy, each warranting the loss of the minimum point level, included

  • starting to disrobe
  • a child fighting the commands of a mother
  • gunfire and gun threats
  • invitation to have sex
  • exposures to adult underwear
  • drinking of alcoholic beverages
  • a lesbian reference
  • a necking frenzy
  • striking of a woman, fighting
  • encouraging respect for lying
  • threats to kill and grabbing a child
  • lying to protect
  • reckless driving, including endangerment of a child
  • female anatomical reference
  • sexual innuendo
  • gamming (intentionally maximizing exposure of rear upper legs while sitting in a skirt or dress)
  • admission of adultery

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication. As required of the Holy Scriptures, unless God's name is used with reverence to His glory and praise, its use is considered in vain, whether literal or euphemistic.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Presentation of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
