SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

*Chill Factor* (R) -- another good movie made not-so-good.

Language and violence were the quintessential demons in this flick. Ulrich and Gooding were good. Gooding was better, but he sure had a mouth on him. Ulrich helped him out a lot, though. At least 113 times in 95 minutes one form or another of foul language pelted the ears of the patron.

Experimental calculations gone awry led to killing of 18 people. It was thought that the effect of a new chemical weapon would only reach 200 meters when the actual radius was 800 meters. And too late the revelation was made. Special effects in gore and disintegration of flesh was maximized. This action-packed tour of two hapless victims of circumstance led the viewer through a well-made and well-acted trip through almost every imaginable manner of peril as the duo tried to deliver the doomsday bomb to a distant army installation. And through it all, the desperate duo had to keep the chemical bomb at less than 50 degrees.

Thirty deaths, five of which were graphic murders. Lots of gunfire and firearms to intimidate and control. Knife attacks. Drug smoking at least once. Fighting on a moving truck. Army attacks on civilian bad guys, killing a couple. Human flesh disintegrating. Skin tight flimsy pants maximize the female form but no nudity. God's name in vain with and without the four letter expletive.

There you have a nutshell of *Chill Factor*. Too bad about the junk in this movie. It could have been a 'good' movie if it were not for the excessive stuff.

So many of our visitors seem to be relying only on this Summary/Commentary for a full accounting of the subject movie. This is not possible. For the best representation of the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model applied to this movie, visit the Findings/Scoring section below.

FINDINGS / SCORING: Chill Factor (1999) CAP Thermometers

NOTE: Multiple occurrences of each item described below are likely.

Wanton Violence/Crime (W):
  • 30 deaths, many very graphic
  • firearms for aggression, control, and intimidation
  • gunfire injury gore
  • dog attack
  • burning dead body
  • high speed antics
  • fighting on a moving truck
  • knife attack
  • attempted murders by gunfire
  • risky vehicle maneuvers
  • traffic collision with injuries
  • coercion
  • threats to kill with firearm in the face
  • firearm injuries
  • army aggression resulting in death of civilians
  • fist fight
  • stabbing
  • human flesh disintegrating

    Impudence/Hate (I)(1):
  • ten uses of the most foul of foul words
  • 94 uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary
  • porno background music
  • blase attitude about a dying man
  • "Looks like our share just got bigger" by bad guys about death of two other bad guys

    Sex/Homosexuality (S):
  • dressing to maximize the female form

    Drugs/Alcohol (D):
  • smoking drugs

    Offense to God (O)(2):
  • 9 uses of God's name in vain, four with the four letter expletive

    Murder/Suicide (M)(3):
  • five murders by gunfire and knife

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication. As required of the Holy Scriptures, unless God's name is used with reverence to His glory and praise, its use is considered in vain.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
