SUMMARY / COMMENTARY: Big Momma's House (PG-13) -- Yet another "R-13" Really bad guy Lester, a convicted bank robber escaped from prison, is suspected by his girlfriend, Sherry (Nia Long) as coming after her since she expects him to think she has the 2 million dollar heist booty (which she does but unbeknownst to her). Sherry runs with her young son to her grandmother's house in Georgia; to Big Momma's house. And big she (Ella Mitchell) was, but the very picture of matronly love--until she disrobes for the audience to get in the shower [Gen 3:10]. Another PG-13 with full nudity [Rev. 16:15]. And a plethora of the three/four letter word vocabulary [Col. 3:8]. FBI agent Malcom Turner (Martin Lawrence) and his sidekick John (Paul Giamatti) learn of the relationship of Sherry and Lester and of Sherry's flight to her grandmother's house and set up a stakeout across the street. Finding out that Big Momma left the house, Turner disguises himself as Big Momma with some of the best body suiting I have seen, at least as good as that used in Robin Wiliams' Mrs. Doubtfire and Eddy Murphy's The Nutty Professor. Many escapades inherent with maintaining a deceitful identity ensue. One that I do remember was the childbirth with Big Momma as the midwife .. er .. with Malcom as the midwife!? With Malcom masquerading as 60+ year old 300+ pound Big Momma, "she" plays a game of basketball with the guys, throws a black belt karate instructor around the dojo, and sings "on Fire" style in a church choir after blasting a couple foul words at the congregation. Of course, the pastor was dutifully annoyed at the language. Some of the vulgarity in this movie is when Malcom as Big Momma gets in bed with Sherry and, though nothing is seen, comments made by the two leave nothing uncertain about sexual arousal. Hey! it's PG-13. The MPAA says it's okay for your 13-year old to see and hear this stuff as entertainment! Who are we to argue? Though Big Momma's House presented a really good and moving love story, some great high-energy black Gospel Fire, and even some reliance on the Scriptures for theatric continuity with some artistic genius by group of actors and actresses, it was vulgar and otherwise unacceptable in many ways. As usual in a PG-13, Big Momma's House was saturated with at least 53 uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary [Col. 4:6]. God's name in vain appeared both with and without the four letter expletive. There was fighting, threats to kill, gunfire murder, robbery, and self-touching [Rom. 13:9]. There was also silhouetting to suggest sexual activity, sexual maneuvers, lies, and adults in underwear [Rom. 13:13]. In addition, there was abduction, a firearm threat with a child, a nude male in a woman's bed to seduce [2Pet. 2:14; Mic. 2:1], firearm threat to the face, and child arrogance against fair authority. There was more but look to the Findings/Scoring section for a complete listing. FINDINGS / SCORING: NOTE: Multiple occurrences of each item described below may be likely.
