SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

*The 13th Warrior* (R) I do not have much to tell you about this movie except there was lots of slicing and dicing of humans. If there was a plot, it was covered adequately in the trailers.

An Arab outcast -- who fell for the wrong woman -- banded with a group of Norse warriors who, for some mystic reason, had to have a non-Norse as their 13th warrior. Together, they did battle with a tribe of aggressors wearing bear heads who terrorize the land. Some comedy, some so-so acting, and some he-man bravado, but lots and lots of human mutilations, beheadings, stabbings, guttings, and more. But only three instances of the three/four letter word vocabulary and none of God's name in vain with or without the four letter expletive. A suicidal sacrifice, cannibalism, drunkenness, and heads hanging about laced the fabric of violence into a weave of gore and wanton licentiousness. Some sexual material (including child genitalia) and 'sorcery' sauced up the mix a little.

While this movie was equivalent to PG programming of 1995/96 in Impudence/Hate, Sex/Homosexuality, Drugs/Alcohol, and Offense to God, it was clearly equivalent to R programming of 1995/96 in Wanton Violence/Crime and Murder/Suicide. *The 13th Warrior* reveals another benefit of the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model -- to identify where the most invasive programming lies.

For the benefit of our visitors who are ultra-liberal lovers of trash in entertainment who leave us hate mail, you are advised that the CAP Entertainment Media Analysis Model is completely objective. While the Summary/Commentary may seem subjective, I tell you nothing that was not present in a movie. Further, we make no scoring allowances whatsoever for Hollywood's trumped-up "messages" to excuse and manufacturing of justification for display of aberrant behavior and imagery. And we use the teachings of Jesus as the yardstick to measure the content of movies. In other words, the CAP model does not mathematically care about context or message or storyline. The CAP ministry is not a secular movie review service -- it is a Christian media analysis service. Don't expect these reports to read like "Siskel and Ebert" or "The Washington Post."

(1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

(2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication. As required of the Holy Scriptures, unless God's name is used with reverence to His glory and praise, its use is considered in vain.

(3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
