Teen heartthrob Justin Timberlake gives his voice to the more level-headed but often subservient Boo-Boo Bear. Yogi still spends his days robbing tourists of their picnic goodies but this time lends his smarter-than-the-average-bear talents to Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh) to launch a fund-raising campaign to save the 100 year old Jellystone. Little does Yogi realize that it is his picnic basket filchering which has caused park visitation to dwindle and operating funds to evaporate. People don't want to come to a quiet and restful jaunt in the wilderness when a local bear keeps stealing their food. Just by chance Rachel Johnson (Anna Faris), a science documentarian arrives at Jellystone to conduct research. Once she becomes aware of the financial plight of the pristine Jellystone, she becomes involved in its rescue. But the town's Mayor Brown (Andrew Daly) and his Chief of Staff henchman (Nathan Corddry), who are largely responsible for the city's municipal deficit due to unwise spending, decide to sell off the logging rights of Jellystone to fill the city's coffers and to boost the Mayor's chances of being the next Governor. Unless Ranger Smith can generate $10,000 in one week, Jellystone gets cut down. Regarding the content, the film earned a final score of 81 which places it squarely in the range of scores earned by PG-rated films (68 to 86 out of 100) in the comparative baseline database. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 54 out of 100 The violence/crime content of this film was largely due to slapstick action violence and corrupt politicians. Only once did the slapstick violence go a little overboard as the display was of a large number of people endangered by fireworks. Fireworks uncontrolled is not something to take a flippant attitude about. While all the violence in this film is "sanitized" for the intended audience, violence is "catching" no matter how slight the violence might seem. God warned us about the leading properties of violence in Prov. 16:29. And so has man as four professional public health agencies warned us that "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." Impudence/Hate (I) - 49 out of 100 The final score of 81 would have been G-equivalent 89 if the string of lies were left out. Indeed, the lies are all there was to the Impudence/Hate content. God is not at all happy with lies of any kind whether "little white lies" or not, [Rev. 21:8) Sexual Immorality (S) - 82 out of 100 As seems typical with "kids' shows" nowadays, there is a large helping of posterior humor, of behaviors clearly intended to draw the viewer's attention to the posterior. [Eph. 5:4] Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 No possession or consumption of illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco nor abuse of prescription drugs were noted. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 This film is free of any abuse of God's name or any content related to occultism, witchcraft, Satanism or sorcery. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 No murders nor suicides were found. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
