Make that six now. After 16 minutes of Wedding Crashers I had enough. In that 16 minutes there were: 8 uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary, two uses of the most foul of the foul words [Col. 3:8]; three uses of God's name in vain though without the four letter expletive [Deut. 5:11]; 12 instances of nudity for intercourse and/or intercourse with nudity, planning sexual conquests [Rev. 21:8]; booze repeatedly, drinking repeatedly, drunkenness repeatedly [Gal. 5:19 - 21] ... need more be said? Well, there is more as noted in the Findings/Scoring section. The content of the first 16 minutes certainly makes for an unusual scoring distribution: W - 100, I - 0, S - 0, D - 0, O - 38, M - 100. The scoring for that 16-minute portion of the film contained enough assaults on morality and decency to loose all 100 starting points in each of Impudence/Hate (I), Sexual Immorality (S) and Drugs/Alcohol and most of them in Offense to God. One of the comments the writers had the actors say was particularly pointed. A woman had a tattoo below the small of her back. The writers had the actors comment that it was a sexual invitation, that she was easy prey. I have felt for a long time that such positioning of a tattoo on a body was a sexual expression, now the writers of this film fortify it. I am sorry if that offends some of you, but I did not write the Rules about the use of tattoos. [Lev. 19:28] And the Author of the Rules spent three days in Hell so you and I would not have to spend one moment there. That makes His Word rather important dontchaknow? To this sinner anyway. Like Dr. Martin Luther, my conscience is captive of the Word of God. Sure, it was rated R, but if I were a betting man I would bet this film would have received NC-17 (which used to be X) not that long ago. Maybe it is one of those NC-17 films that was edited for R. If so, it wasn't edited enough. In my opinion anyway. Who cares if a walk through the remainder of this film would be pristine if your boots are already covered with manure the first 16 minutes? But that's just my opinion. Let the numbers do the talking. The numbers shown represent the first 16 minutes only. The remainder of the film cannot alter the content of the first 16 minutes and no "message" or "plot" in the remainder of the film can excuse demonstration of sin found in the first 16 minutes. Even if there is "redemption" of the two quintessential womanizers (Owen Wilson as John Beckwith, Vince Vaughn as Jeremy Klein) or even eventual justice, a noble destination does not excuse an ignoble path. Even God warns us that though we be Christians and are saved from eternal damnation and are forgiven of all of our sins; past, present, future by believing on faith that Jesus is Lord and resurrected Savior whose Sacrifice paid the price of our sins (our "noble destination"), our freedom from the fires of Hell does not give us license to sin along the way (an ignoble path). There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
