The only reason I went in the first place was that this film showed evidence of being quite popular among the youth. Sure enough, it was number one at the box office. More than half of all films available to the general public are rated R. And more than half of all moviegoers each week are non-adult. You do the math. So, as the intercourse with nudity appeared (at 35 minutes) I decided that was a good time to leave. Besides, I had seen enough in my opinion to tell you what you as parents would likely want to know: gore; demon werewolves and vampires; death; carnage; torching bodies; massive gunfire to kill; demons eating others; graphic impalements to kill; more, much more. In just 35 minutes. The filmmakers present some of the finest makeup and technically advanced CGI visual effects ever seen, but really! I suspect I'll hear about "You can't analyze a film unless the whole film is seen!" Under the CAP analysis model, any "message", "theme", "justification" or "good-guy heroics" do not affect the scoring, which is determined entirely by the behavior and imagery content. The content of the unseen part of a film cannot be affected by the content in the seen part and vice versa. A CAP analysis of a partial viewing is just as accurate for the portion viewed as it would be for the entire film if the entire film were analyzed. The objectivity of the CAP analysis model does not allow scoring compromise for any reason. Note the distribution of the investigation area scores shown by the CAP thermometers: Wanton Violence/Crime (W): 0 Impudence/Hate (I): 24 Sexual Immorality (S): 14 Drugs/Alcohol (D): 81 Offense to God (occultism, satanism, etc.) (O): 0 Murder/Suicide (M): 0 Sorting the investigation area scores in decreasing numerical score: Wanton Violence/Crime (W): 0 Offense to God (occultism, satanism, etc.) (O): 0 Murder/Suicide (M): 0 Sexual Immorality (S): 14 Impudence/Hate (I): 24 Drugs/Alcohol (D): 81 Rather identifies the targeting of this film, dontchaknow? And this is just the first 35 minutes. The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will tell you what your kids will see and hear in 35 minutes if they view this film. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE Let the listing below suffice. It would take much too long to be able to afford gathering all the Scriptures applicable to the behavior and imagery in the 35 minutes of this film. But note in particular 1 Cor. 15:33, Col. 2:8, Ps. 12:8 and Jude 1:4 below. ***Selected Scriptures of Armour against the influence of the entertainment industry*** As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
