Cast/Crew Details Courtesy Internet Movie Database Production (US): New Line Cinema, Radar Pictures Inc. Distribution (US): New Line Cinema Director(s): Lawrence Guterman Producer(s): Kent Alterman, Ted Field, Erica Huggins, Stephen Jones, Scott Kroopf, Scott Kroopf, Beau Marks Written by: Lance Khazei Cinematography/Camera: Greg Gardiner Music: Randy Edelman Film Editing: Malcolm Campbell, Debra Neil-Fisher Casting: Christine King Production Design: Leslie Dilley Art Direction: Bill Booth, Dan Morski Viewed At: Driftwood Theater 6 It is clear that the Motion Picture Association of America and America's mainstream filmmakers are not at all that concerned about God's admonishments against demonstrating the sins of witchcraft, sorcery, evil and false gods to young children nor about their accountability to feeding our children with such [Luke 17:2]. Nor do they seem to be all that concerned about the health of the natural sexual inhibition of your child(ren). If you don't want your kids to watch a man grab a woman's breasts (clothed), don't let them see this film. I have to take a leap of faith and risk losing many of our "family", but this is the first film to earn a CAP "R-PG." Son of the Mask is also the best example ever of the decay of the standards of the MPAA: the best example of the 2004 ratings creep published by Harvard University which revealed their agreement with our R-13 finding in 2000. The Mask of 1994 was given a PG-13 rating from the MPAA and earned a CAP score of 63 which was well within the scoring range earned by the PG-13 films (55 to 67 out of 100) in the comparative baseline database. Eleven years later, Son of the Mask of 2005 was given a PG rating by the MPAA but earned a CAP score of 45! R-rated films earn scores of 54 and below out of 100! Son of the Mask falls a full 11 points into the scoring range earned by R-rated films. Following is a comparative data display of the scoring distribution for the two films. I would love to be able to afford to run a comparative analysis of the massive number of PG films we have analyzed as we did for PG-13 films to see if the PG films have followed the same moral decay pattern we found in PG-13 films (see "R-13"). And even the G-rated movies? But we can't. Afford to do so that is. So, all our adversarial readers can rest easy in that we will not be able to publish more Rock-solid evidence of moral decay in and as entertainment. Sleep well, mighty adversaries ... until someone steps forward and finances this ministry to a fulltime, full force service. Then the truth will be known. And published. I wish I could blame the R-PG scoring on something associated with the CAP analysis model or even my own discernment. But for ten years the same analysis model using the same computer application using the same mathematical equations using the same computer using the same investigation standards and even the same investigator has generated more than 900 film analyses which generated a finding with which even Harvard University agrees -- our R-13 finding. So, the only logical cause for the R-PG caliber of Son of the Mask is the content of the movie itself. As in The Mask of 1994, the ancient and magical mask possessed the power to alter the physical state and social appeal of the one who wore it. This time, the creator of the mask, Loki (Alan Cumming), the god of mischief was looking for it with hair befitting his moral caliber. Loki had lost the mask back in the 1994 episode. Loki's father, Odin (Bob Hoskins) would have Loki's head on a platter if Loki did not find and retrieve the mask soon. The mask was indeed found again but not by Loki. Otis, a dog owned by aspiring advertising cartoonist, Tim and his wife, Tonya Avery (Jamie Kennedy and Traylor Howard), found the mask washed up on the banks of a little creek. Fetching the mask home, Otis sniffed it until it attached itself to him and changed him into a demon dog. And sure enough, Tim soon donned the mask. Tim and Tonya found the mask had given Tim more energy, including in bed. Soon, Alvey (twins Ryan and Liam Falconer) was born. Indeed, Alvey was the son of the mask. The greatest losses of points were revealed by three of the six CAP Investigation Areas; Wanton Violence/Crime, Sexual Immorality, Offense to God. The grotesque extreme exaggerations which challenge a solid perception of reality were incorporated in the Wanton Violence/Crime investigation area. Also incorporated in the Wanton Violence/Crime investigation area were issues such as gunfire to kill, attempted murders (including of a toddler) and extortion with a toddlert's life. [Phil. 4:8, 1 Cor. 15:33, Matt. 25:40] Sexual Immorality revealed numerous issues of assaults on decency and morality in the forms of a woman on a man in bed speaking innuendo, scantily clad women used as display toys displaying their bras while dancing with their shirts open, a man thanking God for a scantily clad woman falling into the man's arms. [Gal. 5:19, 1Ths. 4:1-5] Alan Cumming, who is reported to be a professed practitioner of homosexuality. was portrayed walking about with a lighted stick of dynamite shoved into his anus [1Cor. 6:9-10]. Yes, this film was rated PG by the MPAA. I just checked the rating again in hopes I was wrong. Offense to God found enough issues to lose all of the starting 100 points in Offense to God: issues such as unholy control of the elements, graphic portrayal of a demon, false gods, a toddler as a child of a false god, magic to control/intimidate, unholy possessions, calling on evil spirits. [Ex. 20:3, Deut. 18:10 - 11] The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will reveal all that was found. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
