David Mullen Music: Stuart Matthewman Film Editing: Cary Gries Casting: Kelly Martin Wagner Production Design: Clark Hunter Art Direction: Billy Jett Viewed on ARC Entertainment DVD What can one expect with a film staring Billy Bob Thorton? With a final score of 31 out of 100 this PG-13 film is as "R" as R-13 Patrick Fitzpatrick (Billy Bob Thornton) is a salesman for the Rose's Manure Company. He sells manure as fertilizer to farmers. Patty is apparently doing fine until one day Mr. Rose falls into a ventilation fan and dies. Now Rose's daughter, Rosemary (Téa Leon) must take over the business and rescue it from collapse. How does a professional cosmetic saleslady move into being owner of a manure company. It ain't easy but she does it. How she does I will leave to your discovery should you feel this film is fit for viewing after discovering the truth about its content. I am so uncomfortable giving any kind of attention to this celluloid cuss-fest that I am not going to take the time to write any summary beyond that I already have written. Further, for the same reason I am not going to take the time to build individual content investigation area discussions that typically follow this summary/commentary section. Please inspect closely the listings in the Findings section before you give any consideration to watching this film. One subjective comment I will make is that there is more color in the poster image than the entire show. It is all in subdued brown hues. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
