If not a casual word about it then a brief or even flash demonstration of it. Or both. The PG-13 Shall We Dance? is no exception. It would seem that the entertainment industry is trying to make sure kids at least know about, among many other sins, the practice of homosexuality. Similarly, even the National Education Association (NEA) wanted, by resolution, to promote homosexuality in the classroom to include ages not even able to spell it and in spite of what you say, mom/dad (source: many by web search on <+NEA +resolution +homosexuality>). If you would like more nightmares about invasions of your children, add <+preschool> to your search parameters. Please bear with me. I'll get to the movie soon. Maybe Hollywood, the NEA and many others will now, finally, get the message about how America -- the voters -- feel about the practice of homosexuality. One hundred percent of the states which proposed bans against same-sex marriage approved the bans by wide margins. One hundred percent. Mainstream media spin doctors, social engineers and renegade judges have been in the spotlights for a long time. Now America herself has spoken -- the nuts-n-bolts America. The can't-be-silenced America who make, deliver, power, operate and maintain those spotlights that have been shining on the protagonists of the practice of homosexuality. The behind-the-scenes America. Now, maybe the protagonists will stop trying to force us to compromise our faith and slap God in the Face by trashing His Word to suit their preferences and so they won't have to hear the -*gasp!*- horrible "s" word -- sin. Maybe now the 97% will no longer be required to yield to the 3%. Maybe now the 3% will become more tolerant of the 97% who are not like them. One more paragraph to this sermon then to the film. And yes, I said "they who choose to practice homosexuality" instead of "gays" because the deed and the doer are separate and separable. Every single non-autonomic movement of the human body is a choice. No exceptions. No debate. Jesus separates the doer from the deed by loving us but hating the sinful choices we make. Likewise should we love the doer but not the deed. Everyone, whether we chose to do sinful deeds or not, even myself, is precious to Jesus but our sinful deeds are not. Since the doer and the deed are separable, we do not have to accept the deed to accept the doer. Nor do we have to embrace the deed to embrace the doer. Nor do we have to cheat our Word-based standards or compromise our faith OR His standards to appease the doer. To do otherwise is being closed minded to His Word in favor of rebellion against it. While Jesus freely mingled with us sinners, He NEVER demonstrated or participated in sin OR encouraged us to sin to teach us about it. He never preached on the evils of sin by joining us in our sin. In the Shall We Dance? big screen soap opera re-make of the 1996 Japanese version, troubled Chicago attorney John Clark (Richard Gere) was suffering the blands. His pabulum life was comfortable with loving wife of 19 years, Beverly (Susan Sarandon), typical Hollywood "It ain't good enough, not matter what 'it' is" know-it-all adolescent daughter, Jenna (Tamara Hope) and an atypically respectful and appreciative teen son whose name I cannot remember who is not included in the IMDb listing. But John was not happy. In the strict mechanical regimentation of his days, Clark felt trapped. He wanted more spice in his life. John searched for something to take his life beyond the plateau of boredom and stagnation it had reached. A break in the routine came as John commuted home every night on the El. Several times John spied a mysterious and beautiful woman, Paulina (Jennifer Lopez) staring out the window of Miss Mitzi's Dance School. With strong implications of a developing adulterous affair, John sought to answer the urge he felt as he gazed upon Pauline. To whet his appetite for "diversity" in his life, Clark began taking dance lessons in that studio in which he saw so many times the beautiful woman staring out the window. At his first lesson, John did not get to meet Pauline but instead met the aging Miss Mitzy as his dance instructor. John also met "Mr. Cool", Chic (Bobby Cannavale) who is out to find "chicks" by impressing them with dance, and the giant, Vern (Omar Benson Miller) who wants to be able to dance for his fiance. John also met the aggressive, slowly approaching over-the-hill dancer, Bobbie (Lisa Ann Walter) who worked as a dance instructor at Miss Mitzy's every now and again. Beverley soon became suspicious of why John was working late every Wednesday night, so she hired private investigator, Divine (Riuachard Jenkins) to spy on her husband. The promising young actor, Nick Cannon (Drumline Shall We Dance? also features Stanley Tucci as Link Peterson, one of John's legal colleagues. Peterson tried to dance anonymously, thinking that dancing would make him the butt of office jokes. And it did since Peterson wore wigs and false teeth to avoid being recognized. To the office ridicule, Tucci uttered the only use of the most foul of the foul words in the whole film. [Col. 3:8] Tucci may have uttered the only use of the most foul of the foul words but others uttered a few impudent words as well [Prov. 22:11]. The greatest assault on morality was found by Impudence/Hate in the form of many lies, mostly to one's wife and family [Rev. 21:8], adolescent disrespect of parents [Exod. 20:12] and, of course, multiple uses of the three/four letter word vocabulary [2Cor. 8:7]. And God's name was used in vain without the four letter expletive more times than the three/four letter word vocabulary was used. [Deut. 5:11] Other significant loss of points were due to issues sexual immorality, including homosexual references, sexual innuendo, sex talk, vulgar dance moves and a homosexual pair. [Gal. 5:19, Jude 1:7] With a CAP final score of 56, it is a bottom-of-the-barrel PG-13, two points away from R-13 The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will reveal all that was found. (The heart of the CAP Analysis Model) Wanton Violence/Crime (W) Impudence/Hate (I) Sexual Immorality (S) Drugs/Alcohol (D): Offense to God (O) Murder/Suicide (M) |
There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
