Sanders Viewed At: Driftwood Theater 6 Scanning the CAP scoring distribution (the thermometers) for this film, the filmmakers clearly concentrated the content of it around sexual immorality [Hebr. 13:4] and alcohol [Eph. 5:18] with a generous helping of foul language [Col. 3:8] plus complete disregard for the name of the One who spent three days in Hell so you and I would not have to spend one moment there. [Deut. 5:11] I wonder what age stratum is targeted by such contemptuous programming? [Matt.25:40] And they absorb it dontchaknow? Each little chip out of the home/Bible-based foundation of sexual purity by such programming in and as entertainment makes a way for every little creepy-crawlie the adversary can throw at our youth to get in. [1 Cor. 15:33] Rumor Has It is a complex story of sexual immorality, pure and simple. One man has slept with the daughter, the mother and the grandmother of a Pasadena family - the "Robinsons" of The Graduate. Sarah Huttinger (Jennifer Aniston) and Jeff Daly (Mark Ruffalo) are a cohabitating couple, planning marriage as soon as Sarah decides she is ready. Sarah works for the New York Times as an obituary writer. Jeff is a lawyer. The pair jet to San Francisco to attend the wedding of Sarah's sister, Annie (Mena Suvari). There, Sarah digs into the family closets and through her gruff grandmother, Katherine (Shirley McClaine), finds a number of skeletons. Beau Burroughs (Kevin Costner) is one. Internet mogul Burroughs is the one who places all the skeletons in the family closet. A week before Sarah's mother's wedding to Earl (Richard Jenkins), Burroughs was the bedroom target of Sarah's mother. And somewhere along the generation gaps, Burroughs bedded Sarah's grandmother, too. I will not honor such blatant contempt for sexual purity in and as entertainment by discussing the plot and story any further. It is up to you to figure it out if you choose to set yourself down in front of this continuation of the sexualization of the youth culture. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our more than eight years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
