Episode 5 - Vanity Share Cast/Crew Details Courtesy Internet Movie Database Production (US): Sonlight Pictures, Cloud Ten Pictures Distribution (US): Sonlight Pictures Director(s): Pete Bauer Producer(s): Dea Bauer, Pete Bauer Writing Credits: Pete Bauer Film Editing: Pete Bauer Viewed at Cloud Ten Pictures Online Screening Room This analysis was made possible by the professional courtesy of Cloud Ten Pictures. Cloud Ten Pictures is launching a special Dove™ Foundation Family approved series for television, five episodes of Nikki & Babs: DOs & DOUBTs. They have invited the CAP Movie Ministry to prepare analyses of each of the episodes. This is analysis of the fifth episode: Vanity Share. This is analysis of the final episode of the five episodes of the Nikki & Babs: DOS & DOUBTs series. The total time of the five episodes is 66.05 minutes with an average final score of 87. Next I plan to prepare a total package of all five episodes into one report that can accompany the DVD. In this episode, Nikki and Babs are drawn into competing with each other in the Miss Teen Summer Pageant. Babs entered as a hummer as would be appropriate considering she is a Florida champion hummer. Babs even built her "partner", Svenge. Nikki was going to perform some of her martial art katas when just before she is called on stage Nikki finally got a letter from her boyfriend. Alas it was a "Dear Jane" letter. He had found someone else. Nikki is broken and unable to perform the planned routine so she enters the stage crying (as Babs had suggested to be her routine) and kicked off the head of Babs' "Svenge." The theme is two-fold. First, the issue of vanity is addressed as Tiffany 'brags' on her beauty thick and heavy. Later, when Nikki receives the "dear Jane" letter the theme changes to mourning and references the Beatitudes, Matt. 5:4 in particular. Skillfully Pete Bauer has Nikki flow into the fact that Jesus is always your friend. As promised a comparative of the five episodes of Nikki & Babs - DOs and DOUBTs follows. The span of scoring across the five episodes remains minute -- 83, 83, 84, 92, 93. Again, there is hardly enough scoring difference for a comparative to be useful. But it still says something about the caliber of the Nikki & Babs series ... the 83, 83, 84, 92, 93 says it loudly. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 100 out of 100 There are no instances of violence and/or crime in this episode. Impudence/Hate (I) - 55 out of 100 Twice Nikki lies. They are the "little white lies" but are lies nonetheless. Once when Babs asked Nikki if Babs' mom had just seconds ago said "Saturday" and Nikki said "No" when Babs' mom had indeed said "Saturday." Another when Nikki was practicing a martial art kata Babs asked Nikki what she was doing and Nikki said "Nothing" like an adolescent might say to try to save herself when caught in the act. Some believe everyone lies, that we all lie. But even if everyone who has or will ever draw a breath lied, it would still be a sin to lie. And the first time one lies does not excuse the second, nor the third, nor the thousandth. Nor does the thousandth time of a lie excuse the first. God is sternly serious about lying. So much so that He warns of exclusion from Heaven for the [unforgiven] liar. It is not okay to lie folks. Even if telling the truth gets someone, even yourself, into trouble. If you have a problem with lying being a sin, talk to the One who wrote the Rules. [Rev. 22:14 - 15] Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 There were no assaults on morality and decency found applicable to this investigation area. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 No possession of or consumption of or references to illegal drugs wee found. No abuses of prescription drugs were found. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 Not once did anyone utter God's name in vain nor were any instances of witchcraft, sorcery, occultism or the like found. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 There are no murders or suicides in this episode (or any other episode). There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
