Episode 2 - Idle Worship Cast/Crew Details Courtesy Internet Movie Database Production (US): Sonlight Pictures, Cloud Ten Pictures Distribution (US): Sonlight Pictures Director(s): Pete Bauer Producer(s): Dea Bauer, Pete Bauer Writing Credits: Pete Bauer Film Editing: Pete Bauer Viewed at Cloud Ten Pictures Online Screening Room This analysis was made possible by the professional courtesy of Cloud Ten Pictures. Cloud Ten Pictures is launching a special Dove™ Foundation Family approved series for television, five episodes of Nikki & Babs: DOs & DOUBTs. They have invited the CAP Movie Ministry to prepare analyses of each of the episodes. This is analysis of the second episode: Idle Worship. In this Episode 2 Nikki (Dorothea Bauer) and Babs (Tiffany Ross) point out each others' faults in their "idle worship." Episode 2 starts with Babs besotted over Matthew Connelly (Matt Fedorovich), the one Babs thinks is the greatest Christian rock artist on the planet. Babs fantasizes and dreams of the day she could be Mrs. Matthew Connelly. Babs knows Connelly's shoe size, birth weight, and inseam length. But she doesn't know Jesus' shoe size. Not that Jesus wore sandals instead of shoes, but the point is that Nikki points out to Babs that her worship of Connelly was choking of her relationship with God. Sound familiar? Soon, the pair end up in what they thought to be Connelly's dressing room. Then ... "Then" is for you to find out if you decide this film is fit for your audience. Just as an added "whistle", below is a scoring comparative of the first two episodes. I plan to continue the comparatives through the five episodes but so far there is hardly enough scoring difference for a comparative to be useful. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 33 out of 100 While Nikki is still sleeping Babs bursts into the room, bounces up and down on Nikki's bed and booms "Do you know what today is!?" Nikki mumbles a response that it was the day she goes to prison for "killing you [Babs] in my sleep." Though Nikki's comment was in jest, it is still talk about "killing" of another. [Eph. 5:4] The only other behavior noted worthy of incorporation into the scoring distribution under violence and/or crime was Babs breaking and entering into a Christian rock band member's dressing room. Babs thought the room to be that of Matthew Connelly but it turns out to be the dressing room for Bobby Dickerson (himself), drummer for the band Messenger. No matter the "justification" Babs still picked the lock to illegally enter a secured premises. And Nikki went along with it ... just before she launched a diatribe at Babs about putting Jesus 1st. Impudence/Hate (I) - 67 out of 100 Babs lied about why the two were in the dressing room. 'Nuff said. [Exod. 20:16] Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 As with the 1st Episode, there is nothing I could find that even remotely approaches sexual immorality. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 Absolutely no possession or use or even reference to illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages were found. Neither were there any instances of abuse of prescription drugs. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 Not once was God's name abused nor were there any instances of occultism, witchcraft, sorcery or the like found. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 No one was murdered nor did anyone commit suicide. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
