(While the Scriptural references are certainly not subjective, my commentary may be and sometimes is somewhat subjective.)
Production (US): 1A Productions in association with Odyssey Networks and BBC Manchester Distribution (US): E-1 Entertainment Director(s): Norma Stone Narrated by: James Commo Producer(s): Norman Stone, Michael Wakwlin, Louis Hemmings, Liz Hemmings Cinematography/Camera: Michael Fox Music: Jeremy Soule Film Editing: Timo Langer, Guido Schneider Viewed on E-1 Entertainment DVD The Narnia Code might be likened to the recent movies about a Bible code in which a claim is made about hidden "messages" being buried in the text of the Bible. In this film claim is made of three levels hidden in the story in that it analyzes the content of the Narnia works of Clive Staples Lewis. This is a documentarian presentation, not a work of entertainment in the strictest sense. It is indeed an interesting application of posthumous reasoning and research to reveal three levels to Lewis' Narnia works: the 1st level being delightful appeal to children; the 2nd level being the application of Scripture, i.e., the Gospel; the 3rd level ... is up to your discovery. Note that analysis of all three of the Chronicles of Narnia films are available in our archives. Following is a comparative of the scoring of the three installments for your convenience: The Narnia Code earned a CAP final score of 96 making it a strong G-equivalent film. Each of the content investigation area scores is equal to or greater than 86 out of 100 so the film earns the very rare green CAPCon Alert light shown in the upper left coprner of this page. The green CAPCon Alert light recommends routine attention should be given to the findings in this report. Note that The Narnia Code is not included in the comparative since it is not a work of entertainment in the strictest sense. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report, the heart of the CAP Analysis Model, is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 100 out of 100 There is nothing in the content of this film warranting any concern about violence and/or crime. Impudence/Hate (I) - 94 out of 100 There is one use of profanity, maybe better described as a conversational snippet but is still profanity. [Col. 3:8] Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 Nothing applicable to this investigation area was found. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 89 out of 100 One character is noted smoking a cigar and a group of men gather in a pub for an ale. Offense to God (O) - 94 out of 100 Atheism is discussed as if it is a legitimate option. The story also explains Lewis started out his literary career as an atheist but later converted to Christianity. [1 Tim. 2:5] Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 There are no murders or suicides in the entire 58.5 minutes of the program. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
