I hope she stays with singing because she is one of the best vocalists around. But as an actress she is destined to be best at half-hour sitcoms. She seems to play to the camera a lot. Maybe with experience she would get better but I hope she doesn't quit her singing job. For those who may be thinking this film might present a couple musical numbers by Gomez, she doesn't sing a note. Gomez stars as Grace Bennett, a recent high school grad who has longed to travel to Paris ... and gets her wish. But she must go with her aggressive sister, Emma (Katie Cassidy) and her griping sister Meg (Leighton Meester). While in Paris, Grace is noted to be the spitting image of British Heiress Cordelia Winthrop Scott, played also by Gomez. Now that the Parisians think Grace is the British Heiress and the real Heiress is off to parts unknown, Grace, Emma and (reluctantly) Meg decide to take advantage of the posh and opulent life afforded by the real Heiress and live for their five-day vacation on her riches. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 77 out of 100 Violence content was limited to the three girls walking the ledges outside of a hotel building several stories above the ground. But the criminal content involved extended stealing of the identity as well as the property and services owned and paid for by someone else, namely Cordelia Scott. Meg steals a rose and Cordelia is forcibly abducted by the three girls to postpone discovery of the lie about Grace's identity. God is very stern about lying. [Rev. 21:8] So much so the unforgiven liar will not make it into Heaven. His Words, not mine. Impudence/Hate (I) - 84 out of 100 One of the words of profanity is used [Eph. 4:29] but the strongest presence applicable to impudence and/or hate is lying: a lie by Riley (Luke Bracey), one of the men in the girls' lives plus the lie about one's identity and the maintaining of it to live in riches for a while. [Hab. 2:9] Sexual Immorality (S) - 42 out of 100 With the number of times Emma flashes her crotch and buttocks in a scant swim suit, the number of times a pose and/or camera angle is/are used to force the viewer on private parts, and that Meg and Riley end up living together unmarried plus the shot of the nude man in a bathtub makes the magnitude of the sexually oriented content of this film equivalent to magnitude of the sexually oriented content of many R-rated films, not due to individual extremes as are often typical of most R-rated films but due to so many "lesser" examples (see our R-13 publication for more information on this technique of loading the content of films). The scores in the other content investigation areas were high enough to make the average of the content investigation area scores (the final score) PG-equivalent. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 74 out of 100 The dugs/alcohol content is limited to a few scenes of champagne (and maybe beer) and social drinking of them. No one gets drunk and there are no illegal drugs nor abuses of prescription drugs noted and no tobacco. Offense to God (O) - 97 out of 100 God's name was used in vain only once and then without the four letter expletive. But even once is once too much. [Deut. 5:11] Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 No murders or suicides were portrayed in the entire 103.5 minutes of the program. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
