Cast/Crew Details Courtesy Internet Movie Database Production (US): CBM Productions, Relativity Media, Smokewood Production Distribution (US): Fox Home Entertainment Director(s): John Schultz Producer(s): Sarah Magness, Gary Magness, Andrew Sugerman, Bobbi Sue Luther, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley, Megan McDonald Screenplay by: Kathy Waugh, Megan McDonald Based on the "Judy Moody" Book Series by Megan McDonald Cinematography/Camera: Shawn Maurer Music: Richard Gibbs Film Editing: John Pace III Casting: Julie Ashton Production Design: Cynthia Charette Art Direction: Vaserie Green Viewed on Fox Home Entertainment DVD Since the insufferable Judy Moody (Jordana Beaty) cannot go to California with her parents (Kristoffer Ryan Winters and Janet Varney), cannot go to Borneo with Amy (Taylar Hender) and cannot go to circus camp with Rocky (Garrett Ryan), she is bent on NOT having "the way worst, double-drat, bummer summer ever." Y'know. Those summers of TV (no cable) and Grandma Lou. Judy had planned a super summer of earning thrill points by daring deeds such as riding the Screaming Monster roller coaster with no hands but all her friends were off to distant parts of the world. She is stuck with her brother James, a.k.a., Stink (Parris Mosteller) and Frank (Preston Bailey). Oh yeah! Let's not exclude Judy's "adult" supervisor in mom and dad's absence, Aunt Opal (Heather Graham). In the absence of her friends, Judy devises a plan to hold a thrilladelic contest to earn thrill points wherever she and her friends may be. Whoever reaches 100 thrill points first wins. World-traveler Aunt Opal is one to be eccentrically supportive of adolescent mischief. One positive note for viewers. This is a delightful romp of the preteen through a few days of summer. It is not a cookie-cutter film repeating a plethora of vulgar jokes and other inappropriate content meant to also amuse/entertain the adults who accompany their kids but means nothing to children which you've had to tolerate through the previous couple dozen "kids shows." There is some of such content, most of which is discussed below (which I suspect was added as embellishment by the filmmakers for whatever reason). For the most part this is a true kid-caliber movie. It earned a final score of 85 which places it just three points out of 13 below the scoring range earned by G-rated movies in the comparative baseline database. Inspect our listing of Findings and the discussions below and you will be armed with knowledge of all the inappropriate and off-color content before deciding for what age stratum, if any, you deem this film to be fit. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 76 out of 100 Most violence/crime content comes in the form of vehicular irresponsibility. One of the Bigfoot hunters impersonates the police with a red flashing car top light. Impudence/Hate (I) - 60 out of 100 Gross humor and crude humor such as manure humor appear occasionally. Adolescent mischief and rudeness are present as are one lie, a tantrum and a bit of vandalism regarding clothes hanging on a clothesline. And twice the crew trespass on private property. Though it is not politically correct to mention, one character (a carny) appears in punk style. Sexual Immorality (S) - 76 out of 100 In addition to a prepubescent or just pubescent little girl wearing a very short skirt in which she shows little concern about guarding what can show, Heather Graham dresses to challenge modesty frequently. One time there is a camera angle (or pose) to force the viewer on Graham's figure. Let me point out the appearance of Judy in a bathtub. If that scene were not to take a chip out of the foundation of wholesome morality why then did the writers keep her brother, Stink out of the bathroom in which Judy was bathing while 200,000,000 viewers were allowed in? [1 Thess. 4:1 - 5, 7] Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 There is no consumption or possession of illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages nor is there any use of tobacco and no abuses of prescription drugs in the entire 83.9 minutes of the program. Offense to God (O) - 96 out of 100 One time Judy utters a euphemism of Jesus' name. [Deut. 5:11] Jesus holds a special place for little ones in His Heart and is grieved deeply when adults lead them into sin such as blasphemy. He warns that they who teach and/or cause His little ones to sin would be better off with a millstone tied about his/her neck then cast into the sea [Luke 17:2] And yes, "little ones" includes at-home teens since "little one" is mikros, meaning younger by birth. All of your children are younger than you by birth. Jesus further warns that whatever one does to children they do to Him. [Matt.25:40] Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 There are no murders or suicides. Nor even any mention of them. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
