JOE DIRT (PG-13) -- and it is full of it. It has been more than a week and I do not remember much about the movie. It is one of those truly forgettable movies. A few things remain in memory. I will try to share them with you but if you want an objective and accurate reporting that does not require anyone's memory, visit the Findings/Scoring section. It is the heart of the CAP analysis model anyway. Maybe review of the listing of findings will spur my memory enough to give you a somewhat coherent summary report in commentary on *Joe Dirt* (and it is full of it). Joe Dirt (David Spade) is abandoned by his parents during a visit to the Grand Canyon. Using out-of-sight as an excuse, Joe's parents leave as Joe plays in a garbage can. Just like all 8 year old kids do, right. Well, that and more nudity and falling feces paint the tone for this so-called PG-13 movie. And, yes, this one, too earned a CAP R-13 score. It is l-o-a-d-e-d with toilet humor and crude humor, if these are humorous. Just how funny is it to you to watch the overflow of a camper toilet storage ooze down to cover someone, a dog scrotum frozen to a porch floor, dogs copulating, and, among other things, a half-dressed male writhing and self-touching like a female stripper. [Eph. 4:19] From birth, Joe has worn a mullet wig his parents gave him. The intent of giving him the wig was to cover a birth defect that caused his skull cap to fail to close and left part his brain exposed: "Kinda grosses people out." Somehow, after about 20 years of roaming the highways and byways of America to find his parents, Joe ends up in a smut talk show. Now the world learns of Joe's plight to find his parents. And the world becomes involved in finding them. In one of his stops, Joe meets up with a pastor who is humbly willing to help Joe in any way he can. But his brand of help in not the kind of help anyone needs -- sadomasochistic imprisonment. Now, after years of picking on the Catholic church, it appears the entertainment industry is going to pick on the clergy in general. I wonder how many of the well under 13 year old kids in the audience now have a jaded impression of pastors? Joe also meets up with an American Indian (I don't remember his real name or script name) who is planning to become a veterinarian. Working as a fireworks sales stand owner, selling only sparklers and smoking snakes, the Indian volunteers to help Joe find his parents. Joe has some advice for selling fireworks and rattles off a list that sounds more like the inventory of ordnance for a military coup than plain ole fireworks. Joe teaches the Indian (and the kids in the audience) and teaches well how to be irresponsible with fireworks by exploding a kettle of kerosene with a roman candle. Then is when Joe and the Indian find the large metal canister which looks like a bomb but is rather the human waste collection tank for a camper. In some tedious maneuvers and laboriously obvious logic, the Sheriff of the local town (which Joe tries to hold hostage with the "bomb") knocks the valve off and Joe, strapped to the "bomb", gets covered with human excrement as it oozes out, giving definition to toilet humor. [Eph. 5:4; Col 3:5] This is the gist of the humor in this comedy. But there are some touching moments between Joe and Brandy (Brittany Daniel). Some of the touching is sexual and some is tender. Joe had saved Brandy's dog by providing advice on how to unfreeze the dog's scrotum from the porch (nothing visual is ignored). Another dog tried to mount a boy's leg. A pair of dogs copulate. And neither is human erection ignored (though masked). Right. Exaggeration is extreme and vulgarity is maximized. What ignominious ideas for entertainment! What minds can do this knowing children 13 and under will see it? For that matter, what use is it for adults except to further the lowering of the threshold of acceptance. And human sexuality is not spared, either. Full rear male nudity. Intercourse, mostly hidden but audible. One sexual escapade was incestual. Sex offers. Sex requests. And much more. The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will tell the truth about the content of this R-13 flick.
