JIMMY NEUTRON: BOY GENIUS (G) -- ...delightful and innovative, sometimes uncomfortable...

NOTE: None of the organizations in the images on this page are paying one cent for the space.

Jimmy "Nerdtron" Neutron (Debi Derryberry) has a mission: to save all the parents kidnapped from their homes by evil King Goobot: (Patrick Stewart) bent on feeding the parents to a likewise evil monster on a distant planet. Jimmy enlists the aid of a number of neighborhood kids as his "army" to rescue the parents. A delightful and innovative, sometimes uncomfortable imaginative work of animation art brought some life to this colorful spree into the lives of elementary school kids.

Lots of neat gadgetry. Jimmy has contraptions to "brush" his teeth. To fix his hair. Various travel devices. Even a rocketship from which he and Goddard, his robot "pooch" launched a toaster communications satellite. Being the genius he is, Jimmy had a computer or instrument for everything. And built a space armada from amusement park rides.

One evening, zillions of alien spacecraft abduct all parents by beaming them up to the spaceships. People were seen floating up to the spacecraft while doing evening things, including reading the newspaper while setting on the commode but without the commode, just the adult bare from waist to knees ... still sitting. Once all the parents were gone, the "while the cat's away" syndrome hit. Kids did all the things the writers projected kids do without adult supervision. They fall into anarchy and licentious life, eating all the things they are not supposed to eat, doing all the things they are not supposed to do. Peeing in the shower must have been the aberrant behavior of choice by the writers -- they showed it twice. And, yes, the viewer saw the young lad doing the peeing, all of him with some of him conveniently masked with shower mist. Everything was BWAAAHAHAhahahaha -- until the next morning when everything turned a dozen shades of green.

As almost all movies for kids, this one is intent not only on the human body as humor but on using body functions as humor. At least the belch is the rude-n-crude behavior of choice. Animal defecation appeared as well as Goddard squatted a pile of nuts and bolts on the porch. And a fire Jimmy caused was extinguished by flame retardant foam from the anus of Goddard [Eph. 5:4]. There would be some good teaching tools in this movie if it were not for them being smothered in a stereotype of middle school mentality. For example, regarding contact with the aliens mom says "If your father and I haven't met them, they're strangers." All forms of authority are presented as dolts, idiots or buffoons, including parents and teachers [Heb. 13:17]. Arrogance was provided for the young viewers such as "What your parents don't know won't hurt them", sneaking out as disobedience to parents and wishing all parents were gone [1Cor. 15:33].

As always, it is not our aim to provide you, mom/dad, with much of the positive features in films. We tell you what word-of-mouth, advertisements and the MPAA won't or can't tell you so you can make an informed decision whether a film is fit for your kids and yourselves. You decide the benefits of any entertainment or artistic value or any positive matters. Jimmy Neutron earned a CAP final score of 89 which is within the scoring range for G-rated movies in the CAP analysis model comparative baseline database of movies, and all but one of the six CAP investigation Areas earned scores equivalent to G-rated programming. However, Impudence/Hate earned a score of 57 which places that area of programming in the PG-13 scoring range. The listing in the Findings/Scoring section, as short as it is for this G-rated movie, will tell all the findings we made. Remember that the CAP model ignores animation that cannot be reasonably duplicated by a child or subjected to a child.

  • Eph. 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
  • Heb. 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you [your parents], and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account [report to God], that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

    *******Food for Thought*******
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
  • Jude 4 For certain men* whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. [*men: anthropos {anth'-ro-pos}, generic, a human being, whether male or female]
  • Matt. 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto [or for] one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto [or for] me.

As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie.

NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure or example from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
