SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

If Scriptural references appear, the full text appears at the end of the Summary / Commentary likely using a mix of KJV and NIV.

JEEPERS CREEPERS (R) -- I was even warned by some of the theater staff.

There were many horrors in Jeepers Creepers. The most horrible was the adult mother-looking lady who sat next to me with two little girls who appeared to be around 6 or 7 years old. I could almost feel the childhood being squeezed out of the little girls [Luke 17:2]. No, I am not looking down my nose at anyone and I am not holier-than-thou nor am I above sin as the pharisees thought of themselves. I am a sinner, too. But my sins do not excuse the sins of others and their sins do not excuse mine. I am just sharing His Word with all.

And for those who think that foul words in movies (Jeepers had 65+ in 85 minutes) does not affect the choice of words by the observer... The teenagers in the audience whose choice of words before the show were at least a tad larger than three or four letters who expressed dissatisfaction with the ending used several three/four letter words in their descriptions.

The song "Jeepers Creepers" ("...where'd you get those eyes?") is central to the finale which answers the song's question.

Christian Media News

Trish (Gina Phillips) and brother Darryl, she called him Darry (Justin Long), encounter a most unlikely character on their trip home during spring break. After long hours driving together on deserted rural highways, the brother/sister pair banter as some would expect a brother/sister pair to do. And the film even sets the age spectrum for the target audience as their talk moves into how mom/dad would feel about Trish's sex life, to which she says she would tell them "None of their [expletive] business" (a line used also in O by a high school student in answer to the same issue from her father). Just more servings from the pie of freedom from accountability and freedom from authority (especially parental) oozing from most movies nowadays and drilled into our kids nearly every moment of their contact with the world. I know all about being in college makes one feel all adult and everything, but the Bible tells us that until a son or daughter cleaves from his/her parents, as long as the children are dependent on mom/dad (financially, materially), the kids are morally subject to their parents' authority. So the still-dependent teen's participation in sexual immorality is every bit the father's business.

After about 20 minutes of brother/sister banter using what is claimed by many teens to be typical language (even if it is typical that does not excuse the sin of it, nor does "they're just words") [Col. 3:8], a strange old foreign-looking truck appears in the rearview mirror. Soon the speedy truck announces its intentions of reckless vehicular endangerment by slamming the brother/sister pair around ... until it passes, leaving the two quivering and angry. But the rural terror is not over.

Farther down the road, the pair pass an old church building ... and the truck is parked there. They notice the driver is dumping what looks to be bodies in sheets down a large culvert-sized pipe into the ground. Then the dastardly driver spied Trish and Darry. The next scene was the truck coming after Trish and Darry - again!

After the trucker ran the pair off the road again, Darry got a humane feeling to see if those things the truck driver was dumping down the tube were bodies and if any of them were still alive. So the pair went back to the church and found the truck gone, so they inspected the premises to see if Darry was right in his feelings. Darry, thinking he heard someone alive in the tube tried to extend himself in as far as he could to see better while Trish held on to his feet. Being startled by some rats, Trish let go of her brother. Darry found that he was right -- they were bodies being dumped down the pipe and one was still alive. The one victim Darry found didn't live long. But he did find much more.

Commanding a flashlight from his sister, Darry finds what the two suspected. One of them is still alive but has a large but very crude surgical incision on its chest. And in the middle of trying to communicate with Darry, the victim dies - graphically. Regaining composure, Darry inspects the cavern and finds it to be a laboratory of some kind. But that is not all he finds. As his inspection wanders upward he notices the roof and walls are covered ... with bodies, nude bodies. He also found the head of a decapitation victim he and Trish had been talking about. It was reattached to her body, nude, and pasted to the wall of the cavern.

There is much, much more to what might have been an okay Saturday night fright flick if it were not for the plethora of foul language, the vulgarity and the portrayal of such extreme evil clearly not of mortal life and not of Heaven -- if what man perceives as evil-looking makes it from Hell. The point is that the demon appeared to be all our nightmares combined into one character and embodied all our images of Satan. Whether this is what Satan looks like or what demons look like is beside the point anyway. Jeepers Creepers is an evil movie [Prov. 11:27; Prov. 6:18; James 1:21; Ps. 101:3]. I was even warned by some of the theater staff about it, suggesting that I skip it.

For the benefit of those who read only this Summary/Commentary, to ensure the content of this movie is revealed to them I am going to list here a few of the evil things about this movie (that the 6 or 7 year old girls saw and you will see if you choose to watch it). Death at the hands of evil. Dead nude bodies, both male and female, killed by evil. Multiple murders by evil, one by decapitation and one by being eaten. A severed head. A demon holding, caressing, smelling, licking, kissing a severed head then eating its tongue. Gunfire to kill. A hole ripped through a man's torso by evil. A hollowed-out human with no eyes. A complete list, including the items in other areas, is provided in the Findings/Scoring section.

FOLLOWUP: An emailer expressed concern that the old building the demon operated from was a closed church; that children may see the demon operating from a church as a signal that evil power may have authority over a church. One of the doctrines of the Christian faith is that the church is the body of believers, not the building in which they worship. A Church can be an open field, any place where a body of believers gather to worship and praise Jesus. This is what we need to teach our children; that the Church is the body of believers, not the building. The building is wood that rots and metal that rusts [Matt. 6:19 - 20]. The body of Christ, the Church, the body of believers is eternal [1Cor. 12:27, Col. 1:24]

NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
