SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

If Scriptural references appear, the full text appears at the end of the Summary / Commentary likely using a mix of KJV and NIV.

JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK (R) -- R did not keep the underage kids out of it when I saw it.

Has anyone wondered where Disney has gone? Well, the Jay and Silent Bob genre is where they appear to be. This is a Miramax film. Miramax is a Disney company. Miramax is responsible for such films as Priest, Lie Down with Dogs, The Advocates, Clerks, Kids, and Pulp Fiction. Disney hired Kevin Smith to produce Dogma and Chasing Amy. Now do you understand why Disney seems to have no shame in stealing childhood from children? If not, feel free to visit Sex, ABC and Disney (SAD). That the movie is rated R did not keep the underage kids out of it when I saw it. And "R" does not always prevent them from getting the video tape.

Silent Bob (Kevin Smith - the writer and director of this movie) becomes unsilent. And it is foul when he does. Foul is the norm for this movie. For our antagonistic [(adj.) 1. ready to be hostile; unfriendly] visitors who think we only count cusswords, there are at least 224 uses of the most foul of the foul words and at least 184 uses of every other example of the three/four letter word vocabulary. Mom/Dad: With that density of profanity it is likely I missed some of the offensive programming.

Christian Media News

Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob are miffed. Someone has stolen their material and used it to develop "Bluntman and Chronic" comics. At the advice of one of their peers, Jay and Bob hit the road to hitchhike to Los Angeles to confront the dastardly fiend who stole their material.

The boys seem to have a great deal of trouble getting a ride. One of the characters the boys meet is a veteran hitchhiker (George Carlin) who counsels the boys on the fine art of getting a ride. The veteran hitchhiker gives Jay and Bob sage advice and informs them that the only way to be guaranteed a ride is to perform oral sex on the driver. Another piece of sage advice of the hitchhiker is "Gay. Straight. It's all the same." [1Cor. 6:9-10] While telling the boys this, the hitchhiker gets a ride and demonstrates his advice (unseen but no doubt). Soon the boys get a ride from a nun (Carrie Fisher). Gullibly trusting the wisdom of the wise hitchhiker, Jay tries the advice on the nun (also unseen but no doubt). Abruptly Jay and Bob are ejected from the nun's car.

The boys also meet four "babes" who are posing as animal rights activists. The initial encounter was in a food shop as one of the ladies walks in. Jay fantasizes about her and she begins a sensuous dance that exposes more of what little skin was hidden, much like the dance that cost John the Baptist his head [Mark 6:22-25]. After some tongue licking kissing the six are off to LA so the boys can steal a monkey for the girls as ammunition for their cause. Little did the boys know that the girls used them as a diversion while the girls performed less-than-honorable deeds. By the way, there is a seventh character in the van with the ladies. He is supposedly a clean-cut lad who barks at Jay for using foul language in front of the ladies. The next scene is him being thrown out of the van.

There is much more to the show but little is to be gained by further revealing of the plot. Know that throughout the movie were not only constant use of foul language and illegal drug matters, frequent comments and mannerisms about sexuality, both heterosexual and homosexuality, both positive and negative permeated the script and choreography [Gal. 5:19]. While a gay activist group is taking Smith to task because of what they perceive as anti-gay programming, this movie promoted homosexuality as much as any other movie which frequently brings it up. Understand that just because a line of the script insults the homosexual lifestyle does not mean homosexuality is not promoted by it -- getting bad "press" (attention) is better than no "press" regarding getting noticed. One of the most effective techniques of getting people to buy specific commodities or services is to aggressively flood the media with mentions of them.

There is no benefit to insulting they who choose to practice homosexuality as was often done in Jay and Silent Bob. Insulting someone can start fights. Recall the schoolyard. What got the most attention the fastest? Answer: a fight. And indeed a fight has started surrounding this movie with homosexuality being the center of attention. Further, insulting he/she who chooses to practice homosexuality may do emotional harm as well as worsen the grip of homosexuality on the practitioner. We as Christians are to do what we can through love and compassion to help the sinner (even ourselves) out of bondage to sin by telling the Truth. Humbly make sure they know the truth and then let Jesus do His Job. We are NOT to tolerate, embrace, condone or accept sin (even our own) to "reach" the sinner. Jesus never has. We are free and indeed admonished to hate sin. God does. [Prov. 6:16-19] But never hate the sinner. God does not [John 3:16]. The homosexual practitioner and any other sinner, including ourselves, are precious to Jesus -- so precious that He let Himself be killed to pay the price of sin.

A couple more instances of unacceptable programming included a man-hating woman insulting a man for being a man and he replying with "Only on the outside" in a whimpering way. Apparently trying to reflect the real world, mention was made of a gay pair adopting children. And there is much locker room vulgarity in this 98 minute flick [Eph. 5:4]. There is much, much more to the findings of sinful programming in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Restricted movies typically require two to three recording logs-this movie took five. I am going to let the Findings/Scoring section present them all (all that I could capture anyway).

  • 1Cor. 6:9-10 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Mark 6:22-25 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom. And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
  • Gal. 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
  • Prov. 6:16-19 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ["the world" is everyone - inclusive]
  • Eph. 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

    *******Food for Thought*******
  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.
  • Jude 4 For certain men* whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
