(While the Scriptural references are certainly not subjective, my commentary may be and sometimes is somewhat subjective.)
Production (US): Gunn Productions, Christian Liberty Academy School System, CLASS Homeschools, Christian Liberty Press, Exodus Mandate, The Gunn Brothers Distribution (US): ChristianCinema.com Director(s): Joaquin Fernandez, Colin Gunn Producer(s): Scott Eash, Joaquin Fernandez, Colin Gunn, Dr. Richard A. Jones, E. Ray Moore, Jr. Written by: Joaquin Fernandez, Colin Gunn Cinematography/Camera: Joaquin Fernandez Music: Mitch Nutt Songs by: The Wintons Film Editing: Joaquin Fernandez, Corey Chaney, Kyle Decker, James Fletcher Viewed on ChristianCinema.com Home DVD The film is prefaced with "This film includes subject matter that some may find inappropriate for their younger children. Parental guidance is encouraged." I agree for the reasons presented in this report. This film is not "Friday night entertainment." It is documentation of findings made by filmmaker Colin Gunn and his family and crew. "This is a story of our children. This is a story of the big yellow bus. This is the story of indoctrination." Those three sentences fairly well identify the scope and purpose of the film. Several paths and systems used by the public schools to reject God from the classroom are revealed. With the rejecting of God from the schools comes rejecting of wholesome moral standards such as sexual purity. Filmmaker Colin Gunn travels the US with his wife Emily and seven kids visiting many schools and other facilities across the country to interview their staffs for answers to questions such as: o Who established the American public school system? o Are my kids physically and morally safe in public schools? o Are public schools religiously neutral? o Should Christians try to be "salt and light" in public schools? o Can the public school system be fixed or redeemed? Or should we withdraw our kids from public schools and homeschool them or leave them in the system and try to make it better? After all, there is no Constitutional authority for the Federal government to control the education of our children. President Ronald Reagan even tried to dissolve the Federal Department of Education. Colin records interviews with whistle blowers of school staffs, a number of students, parents and educational professionals and experts. Gunn has assembled a sobering fabric of challenge for the public school system to clean up their act. A great and quite likely unanswerable question is must the majority believers suffer for the sake of the minority non-believers: must the majority succumb to the wishes of the minority? Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report, the heart of the CAP Analysis Model, is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 84 out of 100 A security camera clip is used to present a brutal elementary school beating. Newscasts report of rape and suicides. An interview with a student reports on the student seeing a firearm on the school bus. While the intent in showing the beating video is to impart the heinous properties of such violence, God warns in Proverb 16:29 that violence is enticing, that violence can led one into the path that is not good. And four professional public health agencies jointly published that violence onscreen can, among other things, lead the observer, especially youth to real life violence. Impudence/Hate (I) - 80 out of 100 Gunn reveals school affronts to parents. One school would not allow parents to prohibit the school from giving their kids condoms and other schools practice academic fraud [Prov. 20:17]. Several scenes are presented of children being led to embrace the homosexual lifestyle without parental knowledge or approval, likely before the kids can even spell it. Definitely before they should be getting "sexual" anything. Sexual Immorality (S) - 44 out of 100 Here is where the strongest content was found. Though there are no acts of sexual immorality and no nudity in the film, many reports of sexually immoral programs and behaviors are presented. A student tells of learning of sexual sin from an abstinence program. A newscast reports more than half of school kids have had immoral sex, many without condoms. Another student reports that four of her classmates are pregnant. Another newscast reports a school providing condoms to high school and elementary school students. Gunn also finds reports of teachers condoning the chosen practice of homosexuality in the classroom and programs to normalize the practice of homosexuality. It is important for the parent to realize that for some children onscreen references to sexually immoral behaviors can embolden them to "try it for themselves." [Eph 5:12] There is more to the content applicable to this content investigation area and I ask that you inspect the listing in the Findings/Scoring section for a full accounting of them. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 87 out of 100 Again one must realize that onscreen references to illegal drug and alcohol abuse can embolden some to experiment with them. Gunn finds that drug abuse is nearly rampant in most public schools. He even presents scenes of illegal drugs from police evidence. Offense to God (O) - 87 out of 100 Gunn finds that most Christian high school graduates reject their faith in Jesus. Gunn exposes reports of teachers and other school staff being fired or suffering other action against them for even speaking the name of Jesus to the students. [Luke 6:22] Murder/Suicide (M) - 90 out of 100 While there is no murder portrayed in this film, a real murder victim is displayed. Gunn interviews the father of one of the Columbine victims culminating with a scene of his dead son on the school sidewalk beside a puddle of his son's blood. Gunn also finds reports of murder by abortion in middle school. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
