Production (US): PressOn Productions & JSJ Films, LLC Distribution (US): PressOn Productions Created by: Janice Henry, Josh Brown, Sarah Gray Director(s): Josh Brown, Sarah Gray Producer(s): Janice Henry, Josh Brown, Sarah Gray Written by: Josh Brown, Sarah Gray Viewed on PressOn Productions Home Entertainment DVD Out of more than 1400 film analyses we have done before Hurleyville, Episode 1: One God, only four had earned the topmost score of 100 out of 100. Now five out of more than 1400 have earned a perfect CAP score of 100. Hurleyville, Episode 1: One God is clean, safe, comfortable entertainment with a solid and noble message. There are many films that have earned the Dove Foundation "seal of family approval" as did this episode of Hurleyville. But the other Dove approved films we have analyzed did not earn a perfect CAP final score of 100 out of 100. This one did. An outstanding job of the makers of this delightful film. It was a joy to analyze this one. I'll explain why later. An entire neighborhood celebrates the centipede ... er ... centennial of Hurleyville, Texas. A gaggle of delightful, missing-teeth typical kids help build a video production of Hurleyville, TX and its founding to present to the neighborhood at the centennial celebration party. I am not going to build a Summary/Commentary of the plot or story as I typically do because there is no need to discuss the assaults on morality and decency ... because there aren't any! But I will mention that this episode is built on the first of the Ten Commandments: that there is but one God; that He is your God; that He loves you. [Exod. 20:2 - 3] The film teaches this Truth to the kids and inherently to the viewers. I am, however, going to let you know I find this film exceptionally delightful. "Why?" you might ask? Since you've asked, I'll tell you :D My wife and I have cared for every one of the kids in this film ... figuratively. Over almost 20 years my wife and I have cared for two biological sons and 40 foster kids. From the 40 foster kids we adopted eight. So, if you are a parent you can easily understand why, aside from the fact that this film is free of any assaults on morality and decency, it is so close-to-home for me. Not once in the film does anyone appear to be in danger of the "millstone sin." [Luke 17:2] Something tells me that Janice, Josh and Sarah will not lose their reward. [Matt. 10:42] May our Lord supply them with the resources they need to continue. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual CAP investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 100 out of 100 There is no content that could be found by this investigation area. No violence. No crime. Impudence/Hate (I) - 100 out of 100 No one uses and profanity. No one expresses hatred toward anyone. No one is rebellious. There are no teens screaming obscenities at their parents. No parent is found to be abusive of their kids. Nada. Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 There is absolutely nothing in the content of this film that even approaches sexually immoral behavior or display or even talk of it. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 There is no possession or consumption of illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco and no instances of abuse of prescription drugs. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 There are no abuses of God's name, no witchcraft, no sorcery, no occultism or demonism, no satanism. None whatsoever. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 No murders and no suicides. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
