(While the Scriptural references are certainly not subjective, my commentary may be and sometimes is somewhat subjective.)
Production (US): Warner Bros. in association with Village Roadshow Productions, Kennedy Miller Miitchell Production, Dr. D. Studios Distribution (US): Warner Bros. They are just about two peas from the same pod with the 2011 version a tad less invasive of wholesome moral standards than the content of the 2006 version. Though the MPAA rated the 2011 version PG, with a final score of 90 out of 100 the CAP analysis model found overall content to be equivalent to G-rated films: It is belaboring the issue to try to provide a summary/commentary about the plot and story of this film since it is not only another pea in the same pod as the 2006 version regarding content, it is, for the most part, another pea in the same pod regarding story and plot. The Emperor Penguin clan find themselves trapped in an ice valley with no chance of escape. Starvation seems imminent. But in this story a Puffin bird, who is mistaken for a flying penguin, comes to the rescue of the Emperor clan. At least the Puffin tries to rescue the clan. It is actually a coordinated effort of multiple species that provide a path out of the ice prison. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report, the heart of the CAP Analysis Model, is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 89 out of 100 Though there is, of course, nothing criminal portrayed in this story there are some matters of violence: animal attack and chase to kill and rescue action violence. Impudence/Hate (I) - 70 out of 100 Here is the area of the six content investigation areas (W, I, S, D, O, M) where the strongest assaults on morality and wholesome ethics lie. [Eph. 5:4] Some characters use crude language and humor. Urination is portrayed. Three adolescents run away. One adolescent defies his father. And there is one use of profanity in a background song -- the lyrics of the original Rawhide TV show theme by Frankie Laine. The version of the song that aired with the TV shows does not include the profanity. Another version of the Rawhide theme includes the single use of profanity but why would the filmmakers choose the version with profanity over the version that does not contain the profanity unless they are attempting to project a certain image? The content applicable to this content investigation area earned the lowest score of the six CAP content investigation areas (W, I, S, D, O, M). This is typical of Hollywood productions as revealed by one of our developmental studies, ATTITUDE: In Perspective - Investigation Area Scoring and Trend in CAP Entertainment Industry Investigations. The area score of 70 is the prime reason for the yellow CAPCon Alert light. Sexual Immorality (S) - 85 out of 100 A couple times one or more of the penguins speaks of lust and of females as conquests. An adolescent penguin sings a song which speaks of private body parts. And a number of innuendo about male-to-male intimacy are heard or seen which are fortified with songs by homosexual practitioners such as Queen and Elton John. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 No form of illegal drugs, possession or consumption of them, no tobacco whatsoever and no abuse of prescription drugs were found. Offense to God (O) - 96 out of 100 While no Satanism, occultism, witchcraft and the like are present and no abuses of God's name were found, the story embraces evolution. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 There are no murders or suicides portrayed in the entire 90 minutes of programming. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
