Cast/Crew Details Courtesy Internet Movie Database Production (US): Columbia Pictures, Happy Madison Distribution (US): Sony Director(s): Dennsi Dugan Producer(s): Adam Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, Barry Bernardi, Tim Herlihy, Allen Covert Steve Koren Written by: Adam Sandler, Fred Wolf Cinematography/Camera: Theo Van De Sande Music: Rupert Gregson-Willaims Film Editing: Tom Costain Casting: Roger Mussenden, Jeremy Rich Production Design: Perry Andelin Blake Viewed on Sony Home Entertainment DVD I set this one aside for a day just to cool off about its content. It is that vulgar. To a parent anyway. If I run into any trouble of difficulty preparing and distributing this package I'll just trash it. Please don't try to judge the quality of this "book" by its "cover." The poster is, of course, the very image of wholesome "dad" stuff with fathers having good clean fun in a water park and all are even dressed humbly. The poster is "sheep's clothing", hiding the moral "wolf" inside. Grown Ups is what I expected. It is a perfect example of Sandler's work. Heavy in crude sexual "humor" and in profanity. Something sexual (spelled v-u-l-g-a-r) or some form of profanity once per minute. This time, Sandler uses a four year old boy for part of the v-u-l-g-a-r content. St. Mark's youth league win their first C.Y.O. City basketball championship in 1978. At 31 to 32, twelve year old Lenny Feder (Adam Sandler) shoots the final shot at the buzzer and it was good. But one of the opponents claim Lenny's foot was on the line. No matter. St. Mark's wins anyway. But was the foot on the line ever forgotten? Thirty years later, Lenny has made a good life as a Hollywood agent, married a successful clothing designer, Roxanne (Salma Hayek Pinault)) who together have two healthy sons, Greg and Keith and one daughter. In the middle of a teaching moment with his sons about video games Lenny receives a call that his boy's club basketball coach, Bobby "Buzzer" Fernando (Bob Blake) had died. The five star players gather at the funeral and reminisce about the "good times." I am not going to take the time on this film. It wasn't funny or entertaining. I'll just give you what I found. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 90 out of 100 Also as is typical with Sandler films this film is not all that violent. In fact, the only violence to it was his sons playing a killing video game which splattered blood from teh victims and threw grandmothers off the cruise ship for 200 points.. Impudence/Hate (I) - Zero out of 100 Some form of profanity every two and one half minutes. Social insults, lies, flatulence and urination at about the same rate. Sexual Immorality (S) - Zero out of 100 I guess I need to tell you what it was that was so vulgar as to rile me up. Sandler had a four year old boy breast feeding off his mother. Repeatedly. Bad enough as that was, the "mother" wasn't the boys actual mother. In the books of Child Protective Services, that would be sexual abuse of a minor. But I'm sure the filmmakers' lawyers have it all wrapped up as permissible. But when have "illegal" and "immoral" been equal? Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 55 out of 100 Drinking and drunkenness. Offense to God (O) - Zero out of 100 Repeated abuses of God's name. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 None. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
