Strangely he spies a little girl about eight years old with long snow white hair and black lips carrying and chasing a white ball. Stumbling into the subway the man is hit by a subway train and dies. The oddity about his death was the expression of deep fear and what was left of his eyes. Mike Reilly (Stephen Dorff), a NYPD detective has been hunting for years "the Doctor" (Stephen Rea) who video tapes his killing and mutilation of victims then uploads the tapes to his website with an ever-changing address making it impossible to shut it down. The address is, of course, feardotcom.com. Reilly's failure to find the Doctor plus the slews of bleeding-eye bodies littering the streets of New York prompt health inspector Terry Houston (Natascha McElhone) to get involved. Once at feardotcom.com the visitor is treated to the Doctor using various tools such as surgical knives and needles to torture and kill his victims, telling them of impending death as he slowly applies his fatal moves. At the opening of the site, some cgi gal asks the visitor "Do you want to play?" If yes, the visitor is asked by the cgi gal "Do you want to hurt me?" Now comes the wildest lunacy in the movie. When a visitor plays the site, s/he dies in 48 hours to the minute. If anyone has seen Dr. Jack Kevorkian's art, you'll see more of the same style in fear dot com: death, fear, torture, sadism, mutilation, terror. It is replete with these elements which await they who decide to watch this film and are subject to such influence. Such wild variety, magnitude and saturation of these evils drove the Wanton Violence score to zero likely before the movie was half over. This movie is not a "toy." It is a goth gorefest for the gorehounds, sadists and Kevorkians. Nothing more. Though a complete fantasy, its influential "bullets" are lethal to clean thinking. The plot, what there is of it, is completely secondary to the imagery. It is difficult to accept that a mind exists which can think up such debauchery, viciousness and wickedness. But these are the times our Lord foretold. I am not a prophet but I cannot in good conscioous say anything else when Scripture screams of it [2 Tim. 3:1 - 8]. Bloody gore, suspense terror and images of death and dying fill the 93 minutes of this movie. Nudity, both partial and full of living and rotting flesh camp on the eyes and mind of the viewer every few minutes. The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will reveal all that was noted. This movie is a very good example of what God is talking about in "evil communications" of 1Cor 15:33. It is a perfect example of that which causes men to defy righteous God warned us about in Rom. 1:30; that men will be inventors of evil things. Indeed, the tale of the end times is dark. | "There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our nearly seven years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
