(While the Scriptural references are certainly not subjective, my commentary may be and sometimes is somewhat subjective.)
Production (US): Cloud Ten Pictures Distribution (US): Cloud Ten Pictures Director(s): André van Heerdon Producer(s): Paul LaLonde, Darek James, Jason van Heerdon Writing Credits: André van Heerdon Music: Anthony & Adam Mancini Film Editing: Steve Hutchings Viewed at Cloud Ten Pictures Online Screening Room During a narration by producer André van Heerdon discussing bias and explaining that even Cloud Ten has bias: "For anyone who has seen any of Cloud Ten's films you'll also know that we have other biases as well." Following this narration the film presents a number of clips from other Cloud Ten films, many of which present issues of violence such as attempted suicide, firearms and death by explosion. The 1 minute and 13 second video clip contains the only content that earned point loss. There is nothing else in the entire film that should activate your Christian defenses ... might perk up atheistic or agnostic defenses, but not Christian. One of the discussions surrounding the actual age of the Earth and the dinosaurs revealed a scientist found some T-Rex remains that still had pliable soft tissues and blood cells. This raises a swirling question: how can this dinosaur be 65 million years old with soft, pliable tissues remaining? Could it be some miraculous preservation conditions? That, in my opinion, would be science fiction. I agree with the film that the last dinosaurs may be only hundreds of years old rather than millions of years old. Another parameter that helps the young Earth theory is that scientists found that a rock spewed from the recent Mt. St, Helens eruption was anywhere from 2.5e3 to 2.5e6 years old. That means from 2500 years to 2.5 million years old. If that is the best estimation the radio carbon dating system can give, it leaves a lot to be desired regarding accuracy. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 63 out of 100 Clips from other Cloud Ten Pictures films are included to fortify the monologue by the narrator. Many of them include images of violence. This investigation area is the only investigation area that found any content to warrant loss of scoring points. God warns us that violence is "catching": that it can "leadeth [one] into the way that is not good." [Prov. 16:29] Four professional public health agencies have added a dimension to that which God warns us: that viewing violence in and as entertainment can do that, too. Impudence/Hate (I) - 100 out of 100 There is no profanity, no hatred, no matters of arrogance or impudence such as teen rebellion against parental authority noted in the entire film. Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 There is no content remotely connected to sexually immoral behavior or imagery. Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 There were no demonstrations of possession or consumption of illegal drugs nor any abuse of prescription drugs found. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 Not once is God's name abused either with or without the four letter expletive. There are no portrayals of cultism, occultism, Satanism, witchcraft or the like. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 There are no murders or suicides in this film. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. CHAPTER/VERSE • Prov. 16:29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good. [The issue is the violence, the 'way that is not good' no matter how "small" or "justified" the violence might seem, and its "leading" effect on the observer. "A violent man" ["man" here is enowsh {en-oshe"}: man (collective), mortal, person, mankind; contracted for iysh {eesh}: whosoever, each] can be any character of any age, any gender, human or not since the cinematic display is at the hands men and women, in the act of committing (demonstrating in the case of entertainment) violent behavior/action whether for good or evil or the violent behaviors/actions themselves. Such exposure can and does embolden the viewer into aggression, especially youth. It took years for American professional health community to finally affirm, probably without knowing it, that which God told us in 1 Cor. 15:33 below. See also Joint Statement on the Impact of Entertainment Violence on Children: Congressional Public Health Summit for more information. Further, God speaks darkly of violence 56 times in the Old and New Testament of the KJV.] ****Following are selected Scriptures of Armour against the more harsh influences of the entertainment industry**** As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
