Danielsen Viewed At: Driftwood Theater 6 Well, again I provide you with an analysis weeks after the subject film has played out at the theaters. But again it should be useful for them who wait for a film to come out on video. Delta Farce comes out on video September 4, 2007. Today is August 31. It has come down to this: if our users want more timely analyses (and analyses of more films), brought to you at least while a film is still playing or even before it opens, we are going to need each and every one of our users to help with the bills Delta FARCE is right. I don't have much to say about this farce flick other than it is about three weekend warriors, Larry (Larry the Cable Guy), Bill (Bill Engvall) and Everett (DJ Qualls) thinking they are in Iraq getting caught up in fighting terrorism Mexican style. While lounging at the Fort Davis base waiting for the big game to come on TV, Sgt. Kilgore (Keith David) arrives to tell the boys to prepare for combat -- in Iraq. Their transport plane to Fallujah doesn't make it. Over Mexico, severe weather forces the pilot (Joel McKinnon Miller) to eject all the heavy cargo. Part of the cargo to eject is a Humvee. Larry, Bill and Everett are asleep in the Humvee. As the Humvee plummets, Sgt. Kilgore gets tangled in the mess and drops with the hapless platoon. On the ground, Larry, Bill and Everett survive but find what they think is Sgt. Kilgore dead. In an irreverent and insincere way the boys bury Kilgore in a shallow grave in the sand and depart to find somebody to shoot ... since they are in "Iraq." The boys happen across a small village called La Miranda. The village is being terrorized by the ruthless Carlos Santana (Luis Chávez). Well, there they have it! Terrorism. They seem to be where they are supposed to be. Especially since Maria (Marisol Nichols), daughter of the local mayor (Tony Perez), takes a shine to Larry ... and he to she. Now Larry has a purpose and goal. And I have satisfied all the "purpose and goal" I intend to in this Summary/Commentary. Let the individual investigation area discussions below and the listings in the Findings/Scoring section speak for the content of this film. At the end of the film is a grasp for some degree of nobility and honor with the inscription "This film is dedicated to the real men and women serving in our armed forces around the world." To that I say I hope not. A joke can be taken too far. Just remember, a bad influence does not have to be real to influence badly. [1 Cor. 15:33] Wanton Violence/Crime (W) Violence comes mainly in the form of warfare battle, gunfire to kill and other tools of conflict with firearms. While there is no gore, blood splattering or gut spewing there are so many "lesser" matters of gun/warfare violence that the total envelope or magnitude of violence in this PG-13 film is clearly equivalent to many R-rated films (see R-13 for more information). [Prov. 16:29] Impudence/Hate (I) Just about every form of profanity is used at least 112 times in this 86-minute film. [Eph. 4:29, Col. 3:8] Preteens beat an adult with golf clubs. [1 Peter 5:5] There are human urination, lies and tattoos plus multiple racial and nationality insults. Sexual Immorality (S) Delta Farce uses many of the typical devices of sexual vulgarity: innuendo and gestures regarding and admissions of sexually immoral behaviors such as intercourse outside of marriage and inappropriate touch; excessive cleavage for show; the use of women as toys or ornaments; anatomical references; portrayals of homosexuality; more. [1Ths. 4:1-5, 1Cor. 6:9-10, 1 Cor. 7:1 - 2] Drugs/Alcohol (D) By their PG-13 label, again the MPAA is implicitly telling you, mom/dad, that drinking of alcoholic beverages in a film for your young teens is acceptable. So, again I am going to make a big deal of it. The American College of Physicians (ACP) Though the ACP study used R-rated films since it was believed R-rated films contained the most drinking, the focus is on the influence of exposure to alcohol in and as entertainment regardless of the film rating. Besides, the ACP researchers were not aware of R-13 which defeats the assumption that R-rated films present the most drinking and drunkenness. A finding by Harvard University Within the ACP study population of 4544 middle school students (90% were under fourteen years old), the prevalence of having tried alcohol without parental knowledge was Rather revealing of the influences of the entertainment industry wouldn't you say? And emboldening children to sin with drink in and as entertainment screams of violating Luke 17:2. I can add to the ACP study that reveals films which present drinking and drunkenness contribute to underage alcohol abuse. I submit that it is not so much the presence of alcohol in films or the rating of the film(s) that embolden youth to abuse it, but is rather the attitude portrayed: the attitude of freedom from authority, freedom from accountability and freedom from consequences. PG-13 and R-rated films, even lesser rated films, are typically heavy with attitude. Our report on this, ATTITUDE: In Perspective -- Investigation Area Scoring and Trend in CAP Entertainment Industry Investigations, Special Report-001 may provide more understanding of the point. Offense to God (O) Abuse of God's name comes in both formats: with and without the four letter expletive. [Deut. 5:11] Murder/Suicide (M) Although there were killings in Delta Farce they were acts of warfare and are thus incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime (W), not here Murder/Suicide (M). SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE ***Selected Scriptures of Armour against the influence of the entertainment industry*** As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
