SUMMARY/COMMENTARY This is an unusually long analysis report because the DVD comes in an unusual format of three short films: Intimacy, Destiny and Meaning, each with a central feature and an intro and outro. Intimacy presents Pop Star. Destiny presents Midnight Clear. Meaning presents Nameless Moment. The film provides two other sections, the Crave Introduction section and the Live Your Story section. Each intro-feature-outro is treated as a separate and unique production as are the Crave Introduction and the Live Your Story features. Following is a summary/commentary for each of the five sections. I. CRAVE Film Series: INTRODUCTION This feature is narrated by Erwin Raphael McManus, best-selling author and pastor of the Mosaic Church in Los Angeles, home of Awaken Films. McManus explains we all have intrinsic cravings for intimacy, destiny and meaning - the bases for the three short films in this package, Pop Star, Midnight Clear and Nameless Moment. II. After barking impudent and brusque comment after comment, Andy is whisked to the hospital because insurance requires 12 hours of observation. In his hospital room Andy meets gifted and precocious 8 year old Shana (Adair Tishler) who quickly sets Andy with his "one melted hair follicle" on his moral hind quarters. [Rom. 12:18, Isa. 13:11] III. But the home Michael chose to invade was not by chance but was the intended target. There is an underlying relationship between Michael and Ben that is not revealed until the police arrive to cart Michael off to prison again. [Exod. 22:12] IV. CRAVE Film Series: MEANING - NAMELESS MOMENT Production (US): Christina K.Y. Lee Production 2006, Awaken Films, Indelible Creative Group Distribution (US): Awaken Films, in:ciite Director(s): Kevin Sage Producer(s): Christina K.Y. Lee, James Duke, John Law, Erwin Raphael McManus, Daniela Roth Written by: Danny Simonzad Cinematography/Camera: Michael Victor Roy Music: Christopher Wong Film Editing: Daniel Roemer, Grant Keiner Production Design: Colin Moran Viewed on Awaken DVD from ChristianCinema.com Physics major Gavin (Dusty Sorg) dreams of being intimate with Kaleen (Kylee Cochran), a fellow student in a class by Dr. Keasre (Matt Norklun). Kaleen already has an intimate interest in Dr. Kearse - she thinks she is pregnant by him. Living in his car and using the university's facilities to shower, Gavin is convinced life is a series of random meaningless moments until Kaleen drags Gavin into a nameless moment which forms the basis for changing his preconceived notions about life being a string of random and meaningless moments. Note that there are a number of sexual matters in this feature. [1 Thess. 4:1 - 5] Please look to the Findings section for a full accounting of them. V. CRAVE Film Series - LIVE YOUR STORY The Live Your Story section, also narrated by Erwin McManus, discusses how we are all influenced by stories. How wonderful it is to hear a pastor filmmaker tell us what the CAP Ministry has been telling everyone for over 15 years. McManus uses Biblical stories to share with us the power and influence of stories to change and even shape our lives, wherever from the stories come. There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
