SUMMARY / COMMENTARY:

If Scriptural references appear, the full text appears at the end of the Summary / Commentary likely using a mix of KJV and NIV.

CATS & DOGS (PG) -- The apparent trend ... digestive and reproductive processes and body fluids ... alive and well.

The apparent trend of Hollywood to present in "children's" movies the topics related to or descriptive of digestive and reproductive processes and body fluids, either animal or human, seems to be quite alive and well in Cats & Dogs. In this movie about cats vying for world domination, the cats are the bad guys. The dogs the good guys. The cats possess the resources necessary to enslave man and the dogs have the resources to save man.

Cats have always been independent and aloof. It seems that once upon a time, long, long ago in Egypt cats ruled mankind until dogs chased off the cats and then became "man's best friend. The cats are bent on getting back to Egyptian grandeur.

Christian Media News

Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) as a scientist is on the verge of developing an allergy medication that will cure all humans of allergies to dogs. A fluffy white Persian (I think) cat named Mr. Tinkles (voice of Sean Hayes) is out to steal Professor Brody's formula and change it to make everyone allergic to dogs so the cats can take over. Tinkles is the brains of the cat kingdom, spanning the globe in an intricate network. However, Beagle puppy Lou (voice of Tobey Maguire) under the tutelage of a wise and experienced secret agent has other plans. Lou will join a secret espionage network equally as intricate to the cats' network to thwart the cat-astrophic plans. There is some light-hearted slapstick "007" comedy to be enjoyed if it were not for the other "stuff." But that is your call to make for your kids, not ours.

Aside from knowledge of some low value programming typical to most PG movies, I want to share with you that never has God placed the animals above or equal to man. Indeed, God gave the animals and the planet to us as our servants, never to serve them [Gen. 1:28]. While we must show good stewardship to and for the animals and the planet, we must never place one of the animals above another human nor worship the earth nor anything on it [Ex. 20:3}. To do so is to indeed lower man to less than the animals. And God did not put us there. Remember that Satan did not appear to Eve as a man or a spectre or apparition, but as an animal.

Among the items of low value programming were the uses of God's name in vain but without the four letter expletive, and various animal vulgarities such as being scratched in an area equivalent to our private parts and, of course, dog flatulence and urination (even a picture of a male dog in a urination position was presented) [Ps. 12:8]. Some inappropriate commentary included "We kick [backside]." [Eph. 5:4] Violence was the strongest presence with, for example, attempted murder by explosion, kidnapping though of a dog or of humans by animals, fighting sequences, and the destruction of an effigy by explosion [Prov. 3:31]. The listing in the Findings/Scoring section will provide a complete accounting.

  • Gen. 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
  • Ex. 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
  • Ps. 12:8 The wicked freely strut about [e.g., create progressively extreme vulgar and vile entertainment with impunity] when what is vile is honored among men [when enough people continue to willingly embrace it].
  • Eph. 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
  • Prov. 3:31 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways,

  • 1 Cor. 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. (NIV) Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.

They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie.

NOTE: The CAP Analysis Model makes no scoring allowances for trumped-up "messages" to excuse or for manufacturing of justification for aberrant behavior or imagery, or for camouflaging such ignominy with "redeeming" programming. Disguising sinful behavior in a theme plot does not excuse the sinful behavior of either the one who is drawing pleasure from the sinful display or the practitioners demonstrating the sinful behavior. This is NOT a movie review service. It is a movie analysis service to parents and grandparents to tell them the truth about movies using the Truth.

"There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I aplaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our five-year study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings.

    (1) As noted in CAP Special Report-001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend," of the six CAP Investigation Areas, Impudence/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

    (2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary without God's name in vain is incorporated into the Impudence/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name with or without the four letter expletive is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area. There is no duplication.

    (3) Only portrayal of successful murder or suicide are incorporated into Murder/Suicide. Portrayal of attempts to commit murder or suicide and deaths by police action or war are incorporated into Wanton Violence/Crime.
