(While the Scriptural references are certainly not subjective, my commentary may be and sometimes is somewhat subjective.)
Production (US): Reel 2 Real Ministries Distribution (US): The Apologetics Group Director(s): Eric Holmberg Producer(s): Jay Rodgers, Eric Holmberg, Erik Hollander Cinematography/Camera: Bruce Donaldson, Jay Rodgers Viewed on The Apologetics Group DVD The Beast of Revelation Identified is not a work of entertainment but is rather for your consideration: another alternate view of the Book of Revelation. Pastor and author Dr. Kenneth Gentry, Jr., under the direction of Eric Holmberg, explores his views of the Book of Revelation. Many have presented interpretations of the Book of Revelation, which has been termed the most difficult Book of the Bible, and each may be as credible as the next since the Book of Revelation is a Book of vision and symbols, which is reported by Dr. Gentry as written for 1st century man. Dr. Gentry proposes many new precepts contrary to popular beliefs such as the seven heads of the beast being the seven hills of Rome, the beast being Rome, indeed Nero himself, and the Harlot being Jerusalem, God's bride, which sinned against God whom He divorced and married a new bride - the Church (Christians). As advised by Holmberg at the beginning of the film, Dr. Gentry's proposal of the Book of Revelation may change your Christian worldview. Gentry places the Book of Revelation in the context of the 1st century when it was written and uses Scripture rather than similarity with current events to fortify his arguments. There is much discussion and many fine sounding arguments, most of which make sense but then so do the arguments made by many other Bible scholars. God warns us in Colossians 2:4 of they who would deceive us with fine sounding arguments. Is Dr. Gentry one of them or is he on target? You decide. Following are brief discussions of the content per individual content investigation area. As always the Findings section of this report, the heart of the CAP Analysis Model, is the best source for discovering the full accounting of the content of this film. Wanton Violence/Crime (W) - 84 out of 100 To provide theme and background for some of the thoughts and ideas presented the filmmakers use scenes of violence, evil, movie clips, military armament, sword attack and the like. In one case a movie clip portrays a beating of a victim. Discussion about Nero Caesar's suicide by blade to the neck was rather descriptive but no imagery of the act was found. The content found by this content investigation area is the only reason for the yellow CAPCon Alert light in the upper left corner of this page instead of the green light. The yellow light is an indication that you should give somber attention to the findings discussed here and the listings in the Findings section before deciding on which age stratum this film is fit. With area scores of 100 in each of the other five content investigation areas, if this area score was three points higher it would have earned the rare green CAPCon Alert light. Impudence/Hate (I) - 100 out of 100 There is no profanity, arrogance, rebellion or hatred demonstrated by performers. Sexual Immorality (S) - 100 out of 100 There is nothing that even remotely touches sexually immoral content, not even nude painting which as sometimes used in "Bible films." Drugs/Alcohol (D) - 100 out of 100 No form of possession or consumption of illegal drugs or tobacco was found. No abuse of prescription drugs was found. Offense to God (O) - 100 out of 100 Blasphemy, witchcraft, Satanism, occultism and the like were not found in this film. Murder/Suicide (M) - 100 out of 100 No murders or suicides were portrayed. Though Nero Caesar's suicide was discussed there is no thespian demonstration of the act. SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION(S) If needed to focus or fortify, applicable text is underlined or bracketed [ ] or bold. If you wish to have full context available, the Blue Letter Bible is a convenient source. If you use the Blue Letter Bible, a new window will open. Close it to return here or use "Window" in your browser's menu bar to alternate between the CAP page and the Blue Letter Bible page. CHAPTER/VERSE As always, it is best to refer to the Findings/Scoring section -- the heart of the CAP analysis model -- for the most complete assessment possible of this movie. |

There are some in the entertainment industry who maintain that 1) violent programming is harmless because no studies exist that prove a connection between violent entertainment and aggressive behavior in children, and 2) young people know that television, movies, and video games are simply fantasy. Unfortunately, they are wrong on both accounts." And "Viewing violence may lead to real life violence." I applaud these associations for fortifying 1 Cor. 15:33. Read the rest of the story. From our years of study, I contend that other aberrant behaviors, attitudes, and expressions can be inserted in place of "violence" in that statement. Our Director - Child Psychology Support, a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist concurs. For example, "Viewing arrogance against fair authority may lead to your kids defying you in real life." Or "Viewing sex may lead to sex in real life." Likewise and especially with impudence, hate and foul language. I further contend that any positive behavior can be inserted in place of "violence" with the same chance or likelihood of being a behavior template for the observer; of being incorporated into the behavior mechanics and/or coping skills of the observer. In choosing your entertainment, please consider carefully the "rest of the story" and our findings. |
