Getting Even with Dad was frought with Impunity/Hate by presenting adolescent arrogance toward a parent, including a son manipulating and extorting his father "to make him go straight." A child extorting his father for any reason is wrong. The movie also seemed to portray that a child should run and hide from the police to protect his father from them. The use of God's name in vain was frequent in the movie.(1) While there was no nudity in Getting Even with Dad, sexual innuendo and expression was present. The movie also seemed to portray consumption of alcoholic beverages as a routine, acceptable activity. The movie was based around a father committing a crime to supplement personal finances, thus many elements of Wanton Violence/Crime were present, including providing examples of how to commit a crime. One positive feature of Getting Even with Dad was no murders or suicides were noted.
Additional examples of unacceptable material included conversation about killing a child, violence near a child, a child handling women's underwear while feigning sexual prowess and experience, blaming God for personal failures, and toasting successful criminal activities with alcoholic beverages.
The ChildCare Action Project findings for Getting Even with Dad are as follows.
In accordance with the comparative baseline data, Getting Even with Dad was equivalent to R material in Impunity/Hate and Offense to God. It was equivalent to PG material in Wanton Violence/Crime, Sex/Homosexuality, and Drugs/Alcohol. The movie was G material in Murder/Suicide.
Below is the table showing the scoring in each of the Investigation Areas plus the Final Score drawn from the actual CAP Report. In addition, the number of examples per hour of unacceptable material in each of the Investigation Areas is provided.
(1) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Impunity/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name in vain with and without the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area.
As noted in CAP Special Report-0001, "Investigation Area Scoring and Trend," Impunity/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. I pray you will find time to read Special Report-0001. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.
