CAP Graphic Data Display Explanation

Example Graphic Data Display As an example CAP data display, the CAP Thermometers to the left are for Armageddon (1998).

1. The CAP scoring range related to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating. The scale relates that G-rated movies earned CAP scores from 100 to 87. PG-rated movies earned scores of 86 to 68, and so on.

2. Six CAP thermometers, one for each of the Investigation Areas W, I, S, D, O and M. The taller the "mercury" in a thermometer, the higher the level of acceptable programming.

3. The actual CAP scoring. The top six boxes house the scoring in each Investigation Area. For example, Wanton/Violence Crime in Armageddon earned a CAP Investigation Area score of 17. The bottom six boxes house the frequency of examples of unacceptable programming in each Investigation Area: Impunity/Hate found 16.7 examples per hour in Armageddon. The bottom two boxes house the CAP Final Score and the Influence Density. The CAP Final Score for Armageddon was 51 and the Influence Density was 0.88.

4. The percentages of MPAA rated programming. In Armageddon , 50% of the programming is equivalent to R-rated programming in accordance with the CAP numeric comparative baseline database of movies, and so on.

5. This is the legend defining the W-I-S-D-O-M atop the six CAP thermometers.
