Clear and Present Danger was a particularly difficult to evaluate. The movie was about combatting drug trafficking and the use of political corruption to facilitate that end since "legal" means were not effective enough. There were so many protrayals of death and political corruption that an accurate annotation of each individual example of unacceptable material in Wanton Violence/Crime and Murder/Suicide was not possible. It is assured the scores shown in these areas are higher than should be.
Wanton Violence/Crime lost many points due to infestation of violent death and murder. As usual in a PG-13 movie, foul language was rampant. While Sex/Homosexuality lost only one fourth of its points, one example of unacceptable material was particularly offensive. The Drugs/Alcohol score was seemingly high for a movie with a drug-related theme, but there were only three cases of seeing the actual [movie] drugs and their handling. Offense to God lost points to the use of God's name in vain, once with the three/four letter word vocabulary. Murder/Suicide was thick but only four cases of individualized murder were noted. All other murders were the result of the drug wars -- far too many to count. While the CAP Model does not subtract points for scenes of death due to actual war, the drug war deaths were classified as murders because the drug wars were not actual war -- they were Hollywood fanfare.
The ChildCare Action Project findings for Clear and Present Danger are as follows.
Clear and Present Danger was R material in Impunity/Hate, PG material in Sex/Homosexuality, Offense to God, and Murder/Suicide, and G material in Drugs/Alcohol. Only Wanton Violence/Crime earned a score which corresponds to the PG-13 comparative baseline data.
Below is the table showing the scoring in each of the Investigation Areas plus the Final Score drawn from the actual CAP Report. In addition, the number of examples per hour of unacceptable material in each of the Investigation Areas is provided.
