The Beverly Hillbillies was an attempt to mimic the original TV series: not a very good attempt. The use of a firearm to intimidate happened thrice, reducing the Wanton Violence/Crime score. Hood control, embezzlement, and planning embezzlement also reduced the Wanton Violence/Crime score. The threats to kill also took their toll on the Wanton Violence/Crime score. The Impunity/Hate score revealed how much the movie promoted unacceptable language, a lack of approriate submission to fair authority, and obscene digital gestures.(1)   The Beverly Hillbillies was heavy in sexual inappropriateness; revealing dress and undress, sexual comments, suggestive eye movements, kicking of privates, plus a few other typical sexual tweaks. The only examples of Drugs/Alcohol noted were Granny's moonshine. The examples were, of course, presented in a humorous, favorable setting. Several uses of God's name in vain (without the three/four letter word vocabulary) erroded the starting 100 points in Offense to God.(2)   Of admirable note was the total absence of examples of Murder/Suicide!

Though each of these notations of unacceptable material may seem like "gimme a break" nit-picks, each takes its tiny toll on the character of the observer. And thousands upon thousands of itty-bitty chips taken away from the Christian (or traditional) foundation of good moral character will one day topple the entire structure upon which integrity, self-esteem, and coping skills are built. While none of the individual examples of unacceptable material would have thrown The Beverly Hillbillies into the "PG-13" movie classification, the exacting and objective investigation standards of the CAP do not consider so much how bad the worst example is, but how influential the bad examples are in total. The Beverly Hillbillies should have been rated PG-13 due to the plethora of sexual items, the flippant use of firearms, and issues of impunity; each in total being capable of contributing to the corruption of the wholesome and righteous ethics of the observer. And so many individual items of unacceptable material in such a short movie (93 minutes) made the density of corruptive influence very high.

The ChildCare Action Project findings for The Beverly Hillbillies are as follows.

(1) As noted in CAP Special Report-0001, "Investigation Area and Scoring Trend" Impunity/Hate was the strongest presence in all four movie classifications. I pray you will find time to read Special Report-0001. It has a strong revelation about the entertainment media.

(2) The use of the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Impunity/Hate Investigation Area. The use of God's name in vain with and without the three/four letter word vocabulary is incorporated into the Offense to God Investigation Area.
